Kevin Saunderson playing out Green Velvet's Flash was a personal moment of excitement for me.

Also: Todd Terje playing Inspector Norse.

I cant even really pick a best set, there were so many... Also if something was mediocre 3 other stages or parties were minutes away.
"How long will this last, this delicious feeling of being alive, of having penetrated the veil which hides beauty and the wonders of celestial vistas? It doesn't matter, as there can be nothing but gratitude for even a glimpse of what exists for those who can become open to it."

Unsurprising. Did you have high expectations? He's always been a rubbish DJ imo.

I concur. The only reason maceo plex gets worst set was because I had built it up too much.

I did. I think part of the problem is that I love his productions but he never plays them in his dj sets. That's my main complaint (if you can even call it one).

That was pretty mild as far as meltdowns go. We didn't even have to send you for a time out on the stage! I'm sure you were more flustered on the inside, but you were handling it okay.

I'm still baffled that you guys got booted from Shit Show. I have a feeling it wasn't anything you did but just that they'd had it with that corner of the patio.

Yes, exactly. That's why I was skipping him. Like a lot of his tracks, I think his sets are bland though.

Fortunately, any time you're not really feeling something at DEMF, there are a few other tremendous acts to see at the same time.

Possibly. But like we said "Did they not see the poster for the party?"

Next year I won't miss it though. When a dj asks "to play the 7 AM mindfuck slot" you kind of have to go.

Ooh - Derrick Carter playing Azealia Banks was fun.

My only DEMF regret was that I forgot to pack sunscreen and everyone I ran into only had SPF 30 on them. My face hasn't peeled in years.

This, however, is VERY surprising. Mostly 128 tech-house or did they get into some weirder stuff, perhaps some proper techno even?

It was all tech house and it was so groovy and sexy. It was the kind of set where I kept checking my phone to see what time it was and I would think,
"oh shit! Theres another hour of this?! "
"oh shit! Theres another half hour of this?!"
"oh shit! Theres only 10 minutes left? "

It was also the only set I was bummed I didn't record it but if I had I would not have had as much fun. Everyone I saw was getting the fuck down. The most I saw all weekend. I hope to god a recording surfaces. I think the reason I liked it so much because it was 2 hours of tech house (which is my favorite) and I hadn't heard tech house all weekend so it was a really refreshing change from the in your face oontz.

My fondest memories were milling around the main and beatport stage during the late afternoon/early evening sets - just carousing, dancing, and carrying on with general merriment.

That festival/weekend is absolutely wild. I can't wait to return.

Tale Of Us had a surprisingly techno-heavy set as well.

Yes, DVS1 was the special guest. I didn't catch very much of his set though because Daniel Bell was on at the same time (the outdoor stage was running 30 minutes late). We did see Mr. C dancing along at DVS1's set though

Favorite festival moments were under the Stargate at the made in detroit stage watching dance offs. On the west coast, that sort of thing annoys the hell out of me, in Detroit, it's amazing. There was this lovely chick who had to have been a trained ballerina combining about a dozen perfect fouettés en tournant straight into breakdancing.

That Voorn/Fanciulli set was so much fun! Definitely a highlight.

And similarly, two of my biggest disappointments were Maceo Plex and Tale of Us... Hadn't seen a DJ set by Maceo Plex before and it was... underwhelming, to say the least... Tale of Us played great tracks (and as an added bonus, dropped a friend of mine's track... right after he walked away from the set), but they were mixing for shit...

Tangentially, easily the most painful thing I was subjected to all weekend was the last 15 minutes of Photek's set that we caught.

I'd really like to know too. It didn't occur to me until later that RBMA will probably have some stuff.

Exactly. Why was Maceo so mediocre? I was also extremely dissappointed with Radioslave.
Nic and Joris played a perfect set, it was pretty unbelievable.

It was definitely tech house but towards the end it sounded a bit progressive. Beautiful melodies and perfect harmonies.

It's funny. I have a hard time getting to the festival for more than a day or so because I live right here and can't seperate family/work stuff from being at the festival the whole weekend where as you guys are on vacation here so you have nothing better to do!

Anyway, started my weekend Saturday night at the CLR party which is by far my favorite record label with the best podcast and I got a taste of it live Saturday night. Collabs, Drumcell, Monoloc and Tommy Four Seven all delivered. It was a very nice venue and a great party!

Sunday was Shit Show which I think I went at the wrong time. I was there in the afternoon adn while Crossan and Rich Korach played nice sets but the party was kind of dead. When I left around 4:30 there were only like 75-100 people spread out around the venue.Wish I would have been there in the morning. I don;t know I usually swear off these 15+ DJ mega party extravaganzas and I think I will avoid again. I am picky I guess and unless I stay for the whole 12 hours then I end up missing someone who I really wanted to see but couldn't get to. So maybe it's better off I just don't go???

The festival was nice on Sunday and I wish I would have spent more time there instead at Shit Show but I am a cheap ass and didn't want to waste my presale. Anyway Saw Hot natured, Mathew Jonson (who destroyed with that Decompression remix, Jesus), Josh Wink, Public Enemy, JaunAtkins (who I have no ieda what the hell he was doing). The festival is crodwed nowadays and it seems you needed to have a few brushes of Kesha esque flourescent paint on the body.

Went to No Way Back which is Detroit all the way. Detroit (or from Detroit via Berlin) DJ's. Hot, dark room, and loud speakers. I like to say haunted house type techno. It was just awesome. They do the party every year. You may not recognize the DJ's but they are in fact world class and I think you should check it out.

I heard Rare Form was a bust and Circo Loco got shut down??

Glad everyone seemed to enjoy themselves though.

Rare Form was definitely a bust from all accounts (I didn't bother going), and from what I understand Circo Loco got shut down around 4AM for being over capacity (and serving after hours, no doubt) but opened up again in the morning.

Shit Show was terrific. It was possible to catch the best acts on their lineup without missing anything at the festival. They posted the set times in advance, and hopefully will do the same next year, so take a look at that first before making up your mind. We got there just before 7AM, had to wait about 15-20 minutes, it was fairly empty at first but who cares? I didn't mind having the roof mostly to myself and my friends for Daniel Bell's set. It filled up a lot after an hour or two. I actually really appreciated their scheduling, since I could do that party from around 7AM-1PM and still see everything I wanted at the fest. When the lineup was originally posted, I'd assumed I would have to miss a bunch of the fest to see Bell, so it was a pleasure to see he asked to play at 7AM

Edit: not to imply the people playing later at Shit Show aren't good, Rich Korach is probably my favorite local (SF) dj, but for DEMF weekend, I wanted to go for the people I was not going to get to check out again for some time, ie, Kollektiv, Daniel Bell, Public Lover.

"Why don't you soul train out of here and save some face?" is my second favorite pull quote of the weekend after that text Alison got from some dude she rejected: "I'm on a motherfucking boat. Never forget."

Shit Show. Flagrant K abuse: totally acceptable. Discreet joint smoking: ZERO TOLERANCE.

Man, I've already tried to explain to you that no one outside the venue can see people doing k. However, they can smell the pot smoke. I heard people at Old Miami complaining that they were asked not to smoke pot there, too.

That seems a likely explanation but still surprised people were bounced.

Were they strictly enforcing a no-marijuana policy at the festival proper?
