I will definitely do this one year. Line-ups pending, could be this year if LiB isn't as great as the last..
Let's just say I saw one (1) candee raver the entire weekend. The average age has to be 25-30. Although I did see a few kids (badass kids who were throwing down on the dance floor) and there was rave granma who was tearing it up on her scooter.
Think the polar opposite of a socal rave.
Can you post some links to your favourite lib lineup?

nifty.
I like how i had friends in three different places see booka the same weekend I did. They were alright at movement, met a super awesome chick during that show and ended up not leaving michigan for a week

I could be in for this. Definitely want to gang up so as to make things cheaper. I stayed with a friend in the suburbs last year and I'll never do that again. Public transportation around Detroit is a nightmare. I want to be downtownish.
This was actually one of Forza's more respectful posts on the matter and totally not the one to elicit a backlash. Anyway, you don't need $1000 to do DEMF. I'd say half of that if you include airfare from the west coast.
Villalobos was in my top 3 for the weekend and I still didn't mind when he cancelled. I ended up getting to see all of Inner City which was infinitely better than I had anticipated and ended up being one of the sets of the weekend.
The overall consistent quality. It felt impossible to tear yourself away from any set because almost everyone was killing it and yet there was so much other stuff going on you had to jump around.
One of the things I liked most about the fest was the diversity of people. You seriously get like every demographic. Candy ravers of course, but old school techno geeks, hipsters, bored Midwesterners (including a surprising amount of metalheads and Juggalos), Eurotrash, druggies, a few stray families checking out a local institution, really just a wide spectrum of people. Every race, every age. And there wasn't a lot of friction. Everyone was there for the party and it showed.
I've been on a major Detroit kick lately and it's getting me excited for Memorial Day weekend. I want to see some motherfucking Underground Resistance.
Yes, the crowd was great. My favorite thing about it was probably how un california and un hipster is was. Instead of, "did you hear about Black Polar Bear Claw's costumes and hear thier feedback? It was dope!" it was more common to here, "dude, did you see Richtie? Plastikman was so great! Yes, awesome. Have a great weekend!" I guess it was more people just trying to have a good time instead of rich little kids talking shit and trying to be seen/scene.
Kind of a dumb question, but what are the festival grounds like? Does it feel like a "festival"? Or more like a collection of stages placed within a city park or square? Is it a massive concrete wasteland like Woodstock 99? Or are there varied spaces and places?
I am still so in for this and ready to pull the trigger on renting a room whenever it's time to.

the space is a bit small, but they make it work well with the layout. its right downtown sandwiched between the skyline and the detroit river.

Locked in. Can't wait. If the line-up is half as good as last year I'll be happy. A bit of a change from my usual Memorial day weekend plans of Sasquatch.
so- I talked to the corktown inn- they're gonna give me the regular per-night room rate instead of DEMF weekend rates, even for the jacuzzi suites
deal is I need to book them by march 1st. so we've got a little over a month, but fuck yeah! they're running the shuttle again and doing all the set time and afterparty info and stuff as well.
we can also get the deal on regular rooms as well as the best ones, for the record.
so we should like... start a google group or something outside of this thread for people who're really truly gonna do this. I'm happy to do a bunch of the organizing.
so it's time to start getting serious! who's in for demfchella 2011?
im tryin to get to DEMF. what would a room be costing?
rooms at the hotel I'm thinking of are like 70-115 a night, but they let you have as many people as you like. none of this occupancy rate BS.
Luca, I have a facebook group up. it's something like "DEMF, Tech Fest, Movement 2011"
in fact I was contacted this weekend by a promoter trying to book acts for the festival. lol

I heard that Ricardo is going to back to back with Sven on the boat this year.

The boat? Tell me more. It looks like this year I am doing Coachella in April, DEMF in May, and ATP in October. I could not be more excited.
