Could never get into the 'venue' part of the show, because they oversold the event and were not letting people with advance tickets in. (The venue was also unbelievably bad -- it was in an auto repair garage. No, really).

You might recall me bitching that we could not use our pre-sale tickets at her after party in Detroit because.. they oversold the event and were over capacity. There was a mob of people outside pissed.... I waited for a long while then just gave up when the bouncers started aggressively moving people away from the venue.

    So yea, fuck Magda.

Unfortunately everyone I've talked to that did make that Magda set have unilaterally said it was one of the best techno sets they've seen in ages. And they're the super snotty judgmental DJ types. Oh well.

What has nothing to do with Magda? That the shows were poorly managed, oversold, and not honoring previously purchased tickets? ... Sure. I am not blaming her directly for that, but I think it's the nature of the events... she's too popular at this point for undergrounds/small parties to be manageable.

I don't think she's interesting enough to keep putting up with this.

And before you start in on the DEMF thing, and somehow say it was my fault, let me remind you that I was trying to get in that party long before I tracked you guys down. The reason I was floating between hotels and venues was *because* they weren't letting people in.

Edit: I don't care if they said it was the best show they've seen. I've already seen at least 4 shows this year that I'd put in the "one of the best shows I've ever seen" category, and honestly, I really don't think Magda is that interesting. If that party is actually on the 26th, I am certain there will be things I like a lot better going on.

    That's a drag.

Marc, Troy, and Magda have all been a blast in the past, and that party features prominently on my radar. Seems like early arrival is a must.

That's probably a wise idea. I may also just have a lower tolerance for this sort of thing, too, lead me to a party where I have to wait indefinitely to get in -- being told I may not get in at all even though I already bought a ticket, where I have to stand around in a haze of cigarette smoke, where the line to the bathroom is over 30 minutes long, where it's excessively hot and unventilated... and I will bounce to another show/party. Perhaps I'm getting old, but environment is a big factor in how enjoyable a show is. Plus people at that show were so fucking destroyed that it even put me off and made me annoyed with how fucked up people get. And I mean, you know how *I* get, so I think that's saying a lot.

That night made me very sad in general about SF shows, Lilia was down from Seattle, and I'd just had that great weekend the week before with the show we went to, so I *may* have spent quite a bit of time whining about why SF can't have nice small undergrounds that are well managed and yet still have great talent. (No, I'm not trying to compare a show with Camea to a show with Magda. I know they aren't even in the same sphere in terms of appeal/draw of a crowd). Thankfully this is just my experience with undergrounds here, specifically, most of the publicly promoted shows I'm going to are awesome.

Anyway to get back on track, last year my experience with the Detroit after parties was actually that they also can be a little bit of a cluster with regards to entrance lines / overcrowding, but that is primarily a concern at peak time during the night, if you're in early or wait until really late, it doesn't seem to be as much of an issue. I think my strategy this year will be to go to after party venues immediately after the festival, get my stamp/wristband, try to find set times, then regroup at the hotel for a bit, and go out later.

Or possibly I will just stay awake for 24 hours a day again. We'll see.

You seem to know absolutely nothing about I&T and/or you're ignorantly glossing over Jeff's post.

lol, it directly touches on your tirade...

What the fuck are you talking about, Matt? I was still talking about the SF party, not the I&T party. I could not give less of a damn about the I&T party.

Regarding the SF and Detroit Magda shows, you don't have any direct knowledge of either, so you are the one who is just ignorantly spouting off.

lady says party sucked for said artist because it was a disorganized clusterfuck

artist goes and starts a new label and party with the direct desire to promote a more intimate atmosphere and turn away from the giant clusterfuck mess

    lady says fuck artist

edit: thats what the fuck i'm talking about. I'm just saying. Hey, dissociate last year's disco party with this year.

This recording's sound quality is bichon:

Also, not a few hours ago I was considering using "poopie party" as a synonym for "shit show," you know, for the lulz. After some careful consideration I concluded that "poopie party" can be mistaken to hold a much more sinister meaning, and that it was not in fact synonymous with "shit show." I'm sticking with "shit show," you should too. **The more you know.

Do these afterparties sell out? I ended up buying tickets to late night stuff way to early in Miami last year? I ended up having tickets for things I never even went to. Seems like the best stuff is always announced late.
"How long will this last, this delicious feeling of being alive, of having penetrated the veil which hides beauty and the wonders of celestial vistas? It doesn't matter, as there can be nothing but gratitude for even a glimpse of what exists for those who can become open to it."

I had no clue who Kollektiv was until the other day. Really deep. Teetering on the precipice of being too deep for my tastes. But a good sound system always alleviates that. And the sets I've heard have been very well put-together.

I always forget about soundcloud as well until googling something and am inevitably lead there. It's a great resource. Many record labels and artists keep extensive "official" catalogues on there too.

Sweet. I have to start becoming even more selektive about what shows I shell out money for after festival season, though. I'm going to Europe next summer and decided there's no way I'm missing out on a few nights of debauchery in Berlin.

More deep house. A soundcloud mix cache for your Shit Show HW listening pleasures:

Many times. He opens/supports a lot of shows here, and I definitely recommend checking him out at Shit Show if you get there early enough. (Er to be clear, he does DJ sets).
