The good Reverend is one of the classic psychobilly/punk rockabilly dudes. There are albums, including five released after it, but the compilation Holy Roller is pretty much the alpha and omega. You'll get all the classic stuff.

As far as George Michael, you're probably fine with just the hits. If you want to go further, Faith is the one album of his I was able to listen to at some point.

^ Their self-titled debut was the first thing I heard, and it's a phenomenal album.

Yeah, the debut is their best. The first three albums are all killer and bizarre. After that they're much more hit and miss.

Thanks. Wonder where they'll be billed on the Psych Fest line-up. How are they live by the way?

Woooooooooahh. I didn't know they were going to be on the lineup!!!!!!!!!!

That's a huge score. I've never seen them but I've heard nothing but great things. The sets usually focus mostly on those first three albums with a few tracks from the newer one with the psychedelic cover. The original female vocalist, Rita Lee, is no longer in the group but I've heard the lady who replaced her is great.

Nice. The add hasn't been announced yet... but it's on their tour itinerary. Really excited for January!

Start with Is This It? Then listen to Youth of America. You'll love both and want to continue forward in their discography. The third album is similarly great, and then it's more hit or miss, but still largely hit.

I think it was nosurprises, who pointed out a few months ago that the title track to Youth of America is one of the best things written by mankind so far. He's right.

Whether or not you are, it's completely correct. There's a big reason that Kurt Cobain constantly cited Greg Sage as a huge influence and the true punk rocker out of Seattle. The guy was (maybe still is?) a force of nature.

Also very punk rock: their box set is cheaper than most bands' single album CDs.

Since Low was mentioned earlier in this page, I fell asleep to I Could Live In Hope this morning, which reminded me that the first song off that album might be my very favorite Low song. It's either that or "July."

    Not to mention better.

Plus its awesome because Greg Sage gets all the money from the sales, since he runs the label and was the only musician on the first and (I think?) third albums.

I Could Live in Hope is simply astounding. It's the only one of theirs I've given a front-to-back listen so far, and I intend to delve deeply into the rest of their catalog shortly. Really glad I'm happening to get into them this time of the year, their music is so perfect for cold days. Excited to hear the result of Jeff Tweedy producing their new one as well.

Just wait til it's summertime and you can listen to Portrait of an Artist in an air-conditioned car as you cruise around. Sam was one of the ultimate good mood musicians, and his version of Jesus Gave Me Water at the end is definitive for me.

So far I'm almost done giving Live At The Harlem Club, 1963 and it's blowing me away. Talk about a performer, the crowd interaction is great too. Remember the discussion on greatest live albums in the Default Thread? I can already tell this is it for me, easily. Looking forward to hearing Portrait as well! And oooh, I can just imagine summertime cruisin' to this record

It's a tough call amongst soul and funk live records for me, but I would probably have to give it to Otis Redding at Monterey Pop, even though it's a 5 song set. Just perfection.
