Probably doesn't deserve its own thread, so here we are - what are your TV highlights of the year, folks?
The Jeopardy Tournament of Champions
RAPE STOVE
white power?!
I loved the History Channel's How the States Got Their Shapes miniseries. Hooray for Kilborn-era Daily Show correspondents.
Tomorrow's rather Brit-tastic:
Premiere of the the new AbFab episode on BBC America.
Season 2 premiere of Downton Abbey on PBS. If you enjoyed Robert Altman's Gosford Park, you should be watching Downton. Same screenwriter. Same territory. Even some of the same cast.
Downton Abbey is quite delightful, but you'll find yourself talking like the landed gentry in no time. The 2010 version of Upstairs Downstairs is worth a look if you've Downton'd out, and also has Ed Stoppard, whom I love very much.
So I've been watching Hell on Wheels this; its nothing exciting for the most part. I do like the dynamic between Bohanon (?) and Common, mainly interested to see Bohanon get on with this goal and kill more fuckers.
My favorite character of the whole show is The Swede. I have no idea why, but at the most random times of day I hear the Swede saying "Meester. Bohaannin" and have a chuckle to myself. The swedish accent is hilarious I guess.
Once upon a time: That show's pilot was so bad, I ended up taking Hell on Wheels, Terra Nova and American Horror Story as my trash tv this past fall/winter season
I've been meaning to watch that show. If for no other reason that because Colm Meaney is in it.
4/15: Tama Sumo @ Seattle
4/25: Rolling Coastal Blackout Fever, Sloucher @ The Crocodile
4/27-30: Stagecoach
5/16: Mount Kimbie @ Neumo's
5/25-27: Sasquatch
Not late, I STILL CARE ABOUT LAST YEARS TELEVISION!
I actually watched a bunch more television last year, on an actual televison, than I have in ages. The sad decline of the once-unmissable Misfits aside, it was a good TV year all in all.
Even so, for me, Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror: The National Anthem was head and shoulders above anything else. The rest of the anthology was patchy, but it was such a fresh, ferocious bit of drama and commentary that it made everything else feel gutless and colourless by comparison.

Yes, delightful's probably the word for it. It has everything one would want from this type of show. The costumes, the rituals, the grand houses, the repressed passions... It does have the capacity to surprise, though. (Ex: the Turkish diplomat's hasty exist). I'm finishing Season 1 today. Looking forward to season 2; if for nothing more than hearing Maggie Smith lob those verbal grenades. She's more than perfectly cast. I have to imagine that Julian Fellowes wrote the part especially for her.
Anyone catch the premiere of Project Runway Allstars? I certainly would not have had my DVR not recorded it. Not hooked. I miss the old judges and it feels a bit stale. Hopefully it gets a bit more exciting once they eliminate a few more people.
I was just coming back to this thread to add the words "Oh and Maggie Smith totally owns" to my previous post.
The x-mas episode of the Simpsons was really good.
They show us the family in the future. It's been done before, but it was really good, considering Simpsons is hit-or-miss these days.

I'm stuck at home not working because I lost my last pair of contacts and am waiting on some discount eye care plan to go into effect, and I've got very little entertainment since I can't pay for my Netflix until I work again, so I signed up for the free week trial of Hulu Plus. And it kind of sucks. The selection is filled with crap, and most of the good stuff is on Netflix Instant anyway, and a lot of the shows I am interested in checking out only have the most recent season or most recent couple of episodes up. Of course there's nothing from any of the premium channels, where the majority of quality television resides. Even worse than all of that is that there's still fucking commercials, even if you pay for service. I can't think of any other pay service that still makes you endure commercials. That's the whole point of paying for something you can sort of get for free anyway. In conclusion, fuck Hulu Plus.
I've just been rewatching the entirety of Daria on there anyway, which I've seen every episode of enough times to last a lifetime as it is already.
I mostly use Hulu Plus for The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, and yes, the commercials do suck the big one. Actually, I use it for a lot of my regular network shows too because we don't have cable and neglected to get the rabbit ears for our tv upstairs. I like that Hulu at least has really recent episodes as opposed to Netflix which tends to wait to release a season of a show until the NEXT season comes out.
I miss talking to TomAz.
We all do. I live in the same city as him (unless he relocated) and rumor has it that at 3:15am if you listen closely and its really really quiet you can hear him telling you to go fuck yourself.
That doesn't really do much for me. Colbert & Daily Show both stream separately from Hulu for free, and probably on Hulu for free, and my AdBlock actually works on the Comedy Central page. And I don't really keep up with new shows anyway. I prefer to burn through an entire season or series all at once. I've got old shows to watch that I don't really need to pay attention to current stuff. I just hate borrowing shows from Netflix two DVDs at a time.
DVR'd the Napolean Dynamite premier as I thought it might be a larfer. HOpe it's good. Liked the movie.

Betty White's 90th Birthday Party was one of the best one-time-events they've had on television in a while. It made me want to watch all the Dean Martin roasts again.

Breaking Bad was one of those shows I knew of, but never saw. So when I saw the first 3 seasons were on Netflix Instant, I tried it out and was hooked!
I burned through the first 3 seasons in a few days.
I'm currently on season 4 (had to find the eps on streaming sites).
What a fucking awesome show! I need to finish season 4 quickly so I can get caught up to season 5 premiere.
Season 5 won't be here for quite awhile.

Oh i see. I just remember skimming through something about season 5 premiere and other AMC shows.
Oh well, i still have 9 episodes to watch.
That show they (AMC) are developing on the early years of Norman Bates and his mother could be interesting...
Yeah we have to wait until probably June or July for Season 5. :/

Aaaand Sherlock series 3 confirmed for 2013.

On a much less exciting note, a US version is confirmed as well. That always works out for us.
American Sherlock sure sounds like an idea destined for greatness.
