I strongly recommend writing down any anecdotes, funny or memorable quotes, or anything else that the family shares about them whole they're still fresh in your mind. I know right now it seems impossible to imagine there ever being a time when you won't be thinking about them, but with time they fade faster than you think. My condolences.

Thank you. I have everything I wrote down as well as the input I received from others. The service was one week ago today and it was nice. There were full Navy Colors and I got to talk for about 15 minutes. I choked up a few times, but powered through. Writing it and the days leading up to the service were in no doubt the most emotional times I’ve ever experienced. Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery is a beautiful place, overlooking San Diego bay and the Pacific Ocean. It was also fitting since it overlooked the Navy Training Center where he first arrived from Tennessee 66 years ago, is right above the Anti Submarine Base where he spent a great deal of time at, and just yards from the Navy Electronics Laboratory on Point Loma where he was teaching when he retired.

My results were surprising to me..

My parents were New Yorkers. I spent my childhood growing up in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Missouri... then I went to college in Texas and wound up spending 17 years there. The last 18 years in Arizona.

I guess the Missouri part stuck, despite only living there for 3 years in high school in Jefferson City; my cities came back as St Louis/Springfield Mo/Kansas City.

I was disappointed that this quiz didn't have a question about how you refer to names of interstates. For example, if you say "I-10" or "The 10."

The latter putting you most in common with assholes.

Actually, I take that back. The traffic reports here in the bay area sometimes refer to 880 as the Nimitz Freeway. Awful.

    Read this as "intestines".

Guts/colon/innards/bowels/insides/stomach. Now I wanna know the regional differences in the usage of these terms.

Yeah, I think that is one reason traffic radio never made any sense to me.

On that dialect survey I generally get Detroit (correct) and a scattering of other places in the Midwest and/or Far West. This short version isn't as good, I think. Plus they try to pinpoint cities and, as we've seen here, aren't necessarily that great at it. Though in my case I think part of the problem is that I am inconsistent in usage and pronunciation. It is difficult to access what my default dialect/accent is, to the extent that I actually have one.
