And getting a ticket when you are crossing the street when there are no cars in sight and it is clearly 16 seconds until the light turns red is fucking garbage.

good luck! Just read the language of the vehicle code that you were cited for and if you feel like you were clearly in the right, use trial by declaration. if you feel like there's more gray area, request the court trial.

What i'm saying is don't be a retard and jump into the way of a moving vehicle. Only cross the street when it's clear and a car isn't going to hit you. If you step into the middle of the street when there are moving cars, you're an idiot and you deserve to get hit..

I could definitely see why they ticket people in LA, but being in small town Palm Desert it's just bullshit. Ahh and it's not like i crossed during oncoming traffic. I used the crosswalk and walked during the designated time, but just because I was on my lunch break and in a rush, I forgot to push the button.

The other day I was driving through a parking area and I was passing a parked cube van, and a guy walked right out in front of my car from in front of the truck as I passed, and I ran right into him. He was carrying a bag of sand on his shoulder and didn't even look, and I couldn't stop in time. I jumped out and he immediately got up and said he was fine and unhurt, I asked if he was ok and did he need help, and his boss came around and yelled at the kid for walking in front of my car, telling me it wasn't my fault and he was fine and that the kid was still drunk ( it was 730 am ). I drove away thinking the boss just didn't want a workers compensation injury on the company record, with some drunk kid on the job, and I've been imagining this kid waking up the next day covered in bruises and in pain and having to suck it up but they insisted I go.

Me and a friend both got Jaywalking tickets for crossing a one lane one way street with no cars around at all (except the hidden cop) at like 1 am last year. That was the biggest bullshit thing ever. Still haven't been back to Long Beach since.

Yeah that fucking sucks. I don't understand it.

So you guys, based on the information I gave you, do you think I should try and fight it? Or would it be a waste of time and energy having to go to the god awful Indio court house?

I think it's worth fighting as long as you have the time to. What's the worst thing that will happen? They still make you pay the ticket.

Fight it, if you can do it without significant expense. You seem to have a pretty decent set of facts on your side. You crossed at a crosswalk at the designated time.

CA Law states that if you start walking at any other time other than when the green walk man is displayed, then you are breaking the law. I also got a ticket for walking with a green light and red hand, when I was in high school. In Burbank. Luckily at that time the judge let me off with a warning - but I still had to take half the day of of school to waste my time going to court.

What did the cop write on the ticket? Like was there a specific traffic code reference?

What don't you get? The cops no longer work for us, the ones who pay their salaries, their job is to make money for the city by screwing its residents. It's pretty goddamn clear, isn't it? Budgets have been cut and it's easy money writing bullshit tickets.

The emotions that come with the death of a close loved one have been downright unpredictable. The tiresome chaos of the final few hours, followed by sadness and sorrow were quickly shadowed by all the administrative tasks done over the last week. But, while writing my dad’s eulogy today, the emotions have most certainly returned…and this isn’t going as easy as I thought it would.

I'm sorry, Wes. Losing a parent figure is so hard and then to add on all the bureaucracy is excruciating. I hope you have a good support network, and I'm sure you will do your dad proud with your eulogy.

Thanks guys, I'm getting through it. Now, I think it might be too lengthy, AND I just received waaaay too much text from my sister to squeeze in. I guess if I have too much, I don't have to necessarily say it in front of everyone. The thoughts are what matter and I can always save them for private conversations or just memories.

Writing a eulogy is such a weird thing. You don't want to be wordy, but you need to recognize the whole life and put in your own reflections on your relationship with the passed. It's hard, but whatever you say will be exactly what people need to hear.

    When is the funeral?

I'm sorry for your loss, Wes.

Having eulogized both my father and my uncle within the past 3 years, I can relate. If you try to say everything, you'll just wind up disappointing yourself. I think eulogies are generally best when kept to a few highlights, a few humorous anecdotes, and a couple of poignant observations.

I've started working on my mom's, and I think I'm going to play/sing We Are Going to Be Friends, since it was her favorite song and she used to play it for her students every year to show them that starting new things and new adventures can be fun and exciting rather than scary.
