Anybody in the Chicago area should go see their free show at Millennium Park on July 12th.

great show last night! the new stuff is fantastic live. the way they pulled off "bowls" was just magical. "sun" started out kind of strange, but then got awesome towards the middle and then was just mind-blowing at the end. i wished they played a bit longer and i feel that "bowls" should be/will eventually become their closer. what do you think, Mike? the band, as usual, were simply marvellous...just such great musicians. and, the drummer....goodness!

Toro y Moi still bores the f out of me. the band backing him only added to the awkwardness which is all i see when he's up there. again, his shows feel like karaoke to me.....zzzzzzzzzz

Totally agree, the stuff they played off Swim was awesome! I loved how hard they would jam out on their songs. I think "Sun" was my favorite song of the set, started out strange but they jammed out so crazy on that song and by the end it was just pure awesome bellowing through the speakers. Trippy set, they were dressed all in white and the kaleidoscope-like visuals projected well on their clothes, looked cool. After seeing them live I'd have to say I enjoyed John, the bassist, singing rather than Dan. John sounded so much cleaner on all the tracks he sang, had no idea he sang on most of my favorite tracks from Swim. I highly suggest seeing them. Only complaint like you mentioned was that they didn't play longer. I was hoping they were going to play more than just one song for the encore but, oh well.

And i didn't know how rediculously hard it was to toke in the El Rey. Security was fuckin ON IT. Is all LA venues crackin down hard now? I don't remember it this difficult in the past.

Let me know next time your in LA drew, friends wanted to get really close as soon as we got in the venue and by the time i grabbed your text and was responding, the show started. Got there way later than expected. Missed Toro y Moi but I had already seen him so not a big deal.

I'm jealous you get to see them in a few days, Swim sounds sooo good live. If San Diego wasn't such a gnarly drive on a weekday I'd catch the show again tonight. Let us know what you think after you see them.

So I was listening to KCRW the other day and heard a really cool track. Went online to see who they were playing and It was Odessa, by a band called Caribou. So I picked up Swim. Great album.
Superfan will be in front of the Fonda masturbating furiously to a photo of him taking a photo of a band. Set is from 8:05 to approximately 8:05:15. Guest list only.

Last night did indeed rock. I think my favorite of the evening was Jamelia.

Toro Y Moi wasn't bad at all either. I spoke to several people who were more excited for his set over Caribou, weirdos.

Neumos had their soundsystem turned way up too, which was perfect.

Toro Y Moi was ok. He wasn't bad, but he wasn't inspiring. Normally for an opener that's adequate but I'm not sure how he can feel good about himself after hearing Caribou every night.

That Bowls jam was the highlight for me. Thier encore track (unknown to me) was pretty incredible too!

Agreed Toro y Moi was lackluster.

I saw these guys last Thursday in Seattle. GREAT show. I also saw them again at Sasquatch. I was wondering how a noon time slot on the main stage would effect them... it didn't at all. Best noon set ever.

I was on the rail for Caribou at Sasquatch and got a good picture of him that I'll post here when I find my camera. After the set my boyfriend was like, "Did you see that he totally smiled at me?" and I was like, "He was smiling at ME!" Anyhow, he looked to be having a blast up there. Watching him and his drummer work it out was a lot of fun.

Oh, and Toro y Moi weren't bad... but they weren't good either. They couldn't get the crowd to react. At all.

Yeah, Caribou rocked the shit outta the mainstage at noon. Dan seemed really appreciative and gracious that not only did people wake up early to see them, but that people were actually dancing as well. Matt is right. Best noon set ever.

but, really...what a fucked up slot. the guy is selling out decent-sized rooms now and has an award-winning album under his belt. give him some love for fux sake.

having said that, if he ends up playing TI Fest, he'll likely get a daytime slot there too.

I regret missing Caribou at Sasquatch, but there was almost nothing for me to see for at least 3 hours after his set, so I chose to hang out with part of our WH crew at our campsite instead.

I'm also hoping TI picks him up.

    Edit:

I'm still stoked that our farewell to Neumos show was something as awesome as Caribou

I missed Caribou a few weeks ago in Austin ( or was it Dallas?! ) and it was just a bad move on my part. I WAS working on that Sunday but I still should've drove 3 hrs to see them. I've been a big fan of them since I first heard "Hello Hammerheads". I like the direction his albums are taking and have enjoyed Swim immensely the last 2 months.
