The Western is closing this weekend. I really liked this venue and thought it had potential.

I have not been there but I plan on going out there soon. They just had Mikkeller there to brew a collaboration beer. They've been getting a lot of recognition and awards, and I heard it is always packed now that they received best new brewery on Rate Beer. Everyone I know who has been loved the beer.

I came to post this since Cactus Jack's is right up the street from our house. Since it's right up the street I am getting excited thinking about the potential but the place is not that great so I wonder how it will work out...

Seems like a terrible location for a music venue. They are going to lose a lot of their demo by moving so far off campus.

This is happening on Friday at the Crescent, I will be there.

Cover the Crescent to benefit the Lupus Foundation of Southern Arizona:
Minibosses / Sweetbleeders / Roar / Treasure Mammal performing RADIOHEAD's OK Computer
Phoenix Afrobeat Orchestra performing PORTISHEAD's Dummy
There is Danger performing WILCO's Yankee Foxtrot Hotel

What the heck is that? I will need to research Belle & Sebastian because I'm not sure when they've been here last.

answer: it's north of Van Buren on between Central and First Avenues. I saw bands perform there at that Viva Phx festival a couple months ago. Really nice.

Rob Zombie's Great American Nightmare is coming to Scottsdale. Tickets go on sale today at 10 a.m. as well. Rob Zombie will be performing opening night on Friday September 19th. GA is $45, VIP1 for $65 gets you a T-shirt and priority entrance to the haunted houses. VIP2 for $100 gets you the shirt, immediate access, VIP bar and VIP viewing area for the show. I haven't seen Rob Zombie live in over 10 years so this will be fun!

Got our tickets to Belle & Sebastian.

BTW, is anyone here planning to go to the Summer Nationals Tour (with the Offspring, Bad Religion, and Pennywise) but still in need of a ticket? I excitedly bought one during the presale, only realizing afterward that I'll actually be in another country that day (Montreal for Arcade Fire/Spoon). I paid $36 after fees and current face value to purchase on luckymanonline is $42, so I'm just looking to recoup what I spent. It's an e-ticket so I'd prefer to sell it to somebody who I'm acquainted with (even if such acquaintance is solely comprised of being another Coachella message board member) so that there isn't any suspicion that I'm going to do something nefarious like sell the ticket multiple times. I'll give it a week here before putting it up on Facebook. Let me know if you're interested.

Boys Noize was great. He played some of the Handbraekes stuff he did with Mr. Oizo which was my favorite part of his set. Coachella should definitely make Handbraekes happen in 2015. That being said, I do hate the all ages setup at the Monarch and will not going to another all ages show there unless someone epic is playing. I also wish they would enforce some sort of loose dress-code, because bandanas, backpacks and "candy" all take away from the club atmosphere(that sounds so douchey).

Wonderful local band Mergence is doing their first show since their performance outdoor at the Hayden flour mill last November. This Saturday night at the sadly soon-to-be-closed Sail Inn.

Just recently announced, and looks likely to be a one-off for them to say goodbye to the Sail Inn (it’s the only show listed on Mergence’s website, and they’ve been on hiatus due to day-job constraints). Whatever else I might have had planned for Saturday, I’ll be at the Mergence show. $12.24 including fees and tax at brownpapertickets; $12 at the door (probably won’t sell out, but who knows). Highly, highly recommend.

And for all here who went to the First Aid Kit Crescent show in May, yes, that was an excellent performance. Even better live than I expected. Not the best out of the dozen or so I’ve caught so far at the Crescent this year (that would be Darkside and London Grammar) but definitely a fun show by a couple of girls who can really sing. Bit pricey compared to most Crescent shows, but certainly worth it (was still only $21 buying at Stinkweeds).

Got tickets for some upcoming Crescent shows that I’m also expecting will be quite good: EMA, Cloud Nothings, the Antlers, Peter Murphy (never did catch Bauhaus back in the day) and Xiu Xiu. Thinking of going to Yelle, too, but with that early November date I’m hoping she’s also at Life is Beautiful and I can catch her there instead (can’t spend all the disposable cash on concerts).

This is worth it for Against Me! alone. They were incredible at the Nile last month, one of my favorite shows of the year so far.

This could be good news, we’ll see.

I’ll reserve judgment until we see what Lombardi brings to Cactus Jack’s, but the couple times I’ve been there in the recent past it sucked pretty badly.

Rude crowd and shitty service. Not once in the scores and scores of times I’ve been to the Crescent, Sail Inn, Last Exit Live, or Rhythm Room in the past few years did I experience anything close to that bad. So wasn’t planning on ever going back.

Now I’ll give it a shot to see if Lombardi has effected a positive change.

If they do some kind of outdoor bandshell like the Sail Inn that could be cool, but I don’t know how that’ll work with the neighbors (never a problem at the Sail Inn from what I heard).

Still gonna miss the Sail Inn.

    10/14 – Phoenix, AZ @ Crescent Ballroom

Hmm, Tuesday show and his third time at the Crescent Ballroom in 3 years. Think I'll need to hear his new album before committing, especially since I was a bit underwhelmed by last show.
