Is anybody going to Gem & Jam? I think I'm going to go down on Saturday, and hopefully Sunday to watch Al and Ally Grey paint.

Any hotel recommendations? I think the venue is right off of the I-10 and Grant.

Hmph, that's the only place I've stayed down there. I don't mind the vibe, or location, but the rooms themselves are pretty divey. I was hoping to switch it up to somewhere new.

I agree with Dylan, the Congress is cool for the vibe but the beds are horrible. There used to be another hotel in downtown Tucson not far from the Congress called the Hotel Arizona that was ok but it shut down a few years ago.

I could stay with family, but I'm not sure they'd want to host "psychedlic-spiritual art Dylanja"

Arizona Inn isn't far from downtown and is pretty nice from what I remember. Has more of a southwest vibe.

EDIT* There's also a new hotel called "ALoft" even closer to downtown/campus.

I believe Gem and Jam is this weekend and I believe it's at Slaughterhouse, which is in a shitty neighborhood and, from what I have been told, the venue is forgettable.

The people that run Gem and Jam are at least attempting to bring good music to town. I've heard the event is pretty cool. But the venue they're holding it at this year is not good.

Anyone going to the Shpongle show at The Rialto on 3/13?

Also, I already bought tickets to see Of Montreal on 3/21 (at The Rialto as well).

Oh, wow, Of Montreal is playing 3/21? We're probably going to be in town that day. Might end up there but we'll have to play it by ear.

Tickets were $12 + $3 surcharge too. I think they'll be up to $15 day of. Couldn't pass it up.

Christ, can't believe they're so cheap. Listening to their newest album and enjoy it. I stopped caring about seeing them after Skeletal Lamping into False Priest. Glad to see they're mostly out of that phase, even if there were some fun songs on those albums.

The of Montreal show this past Saturday was great. One of the better shows I have been to at the venue. Good mixture of old and new. Opened with "Lanc's Theme" and "Bassem Sabry" before going on to some older stuff (loved when they played "Forecast Fascist Future"). They did "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels". Amazing visuals and stage presence. Very fun, dancy but mellow set.

I see Guy woke this thread up again a few weeks back. I’ll chime in with a little:

Some friends of mine playing April 10th (Friday night) at the Surly Wench Pub on 4th.

Alter Der Ruine, darkwave/noise band (from Tucson).

Aon, electronic/experimental solo artist (opening, from Phoenix).

    Good stuff.

Low cover charge, I think, not sure how much (posting this from work, Surly Wench is blocked).

Also, the keyboardist for Alter Der Ruine spins darkwave/industrial/witch house music (wumpscut, Sisters of Mercy, Trust, Austra, Cold Cave, Velvet Acid Christ, like that) as DJ Plastic Disease at the Surly Wench each third Saturday night of the month (event tagged “Ritual”). Great dance party, chill crowd, highly recommend. We do a road trip from home in Phoenix for this. $5 cover.

Shpongle at the Marquee on 3/12 was great. Hope you got to catch them at the Rialto, Guy.
