so, who poisoned him? Tyrion's wife? I can patiently wait, just curious.

Tyrion's wife? You mean Sansa. There is a telling shot in the episode, but you could always google it.

Watching that with my family was less than great

Really thrilled with the show in general, though! The majority of the material is not of the books, which I keeps me on the edge of my seat even if I know where the general plot is headed.

Was that in the books? I read somewhere that the show is going to go in a different direction from the books as time goes on. Not sure how I fell about that

It wasn't rape in the Books, but it wasn't a pleasant scene either.

Overall, I don't think the Show will diverge greatly from the Books, just be more accommodating to the necessities of producing something for television and also to allow for the fact the child actors are aging at a faster rate than characters within the Books.

I feel like this is a rare instance where the show is turning out to be better than the books. The basics are all there but the show writers are making some interesting choices by changing things up here and there. At times I found it difficult to get through the books with the blizzard of new names and 3 page descriptions of meals.

Marooko, is there something that really bothers you about the show? What is the point of even coming into this thread?

Also, "Me either" doesn't mean anything.

saw some comments about the scene and they noted that Jaime turned truly aggressive (or more aggressive than the book at least) only after Cersei recoiled at the sight of his hand.
So I haven't read the books but so far it seems Jaime's fears of inadequacy and impotence over the loss of his hand, and the loss of stature and respect, figure largely. Perhaps this scene was modified in order to drive that idea home more quickly than it had time to develop in the books. Get him to his breaking point so to speak.

In any case, brutalizing women as a literary device to demonstrate something about a dude is a common theme in this show.

it sounds like a lot of people are upset about this portrayal of a fictional rape.

Victimizing an extremely unlikable female character is a pretty simple way to attempt to make her more sympathetic to audiences.

Well, it gives Jaime a completely different tone than the book. In the book he seems lovelorn and sympathetic. The book Jaime wouldn't rape anybody.

yeah seriously. By people's reactions you'd almost believe that 15-20% of women in the US have been sexually assaulted.

Rewatching the scene last night it seemed more obvious to me that Cersei was trying to get Jamie to stop because of the fact that they were in the Sept of Baelor in front of their dead son and not because she simply didn't want Jamie. She kisses him passionately multiple times in between her screams of "No" and "Not here please". Either way, it is very different from the books.
