My mind set exactly. That stage is way too big for them.
My mind set exactly. That stage is way too big for them.
Miike Snow's myspace says 1pm. Seems early to me, but I could picture them opening the main stage. Whatchy'all think?
Miike at 1 pm would be rather disappointing. If it must be early, stick 'em in the gobi/mojave
except that would put Plastikman against Pavement, both rare acts.. while Yorke playes against Mushroom, neither of whom are rare acts..
get ready to start 'choak'ing bitches..
GV bumped them up quite a bit on the poster.. a rare act (Orbital/Plastikman) isn't gonna play against a rare act (Gorillaz/Pavement).
PERIOD.
this is Pavement's first reunion show since they broke up at the very first Coachella in '99, Yorke played a small club in Hollywood a few months ago..
Thom will sub-sub, it'll be 7:30, the Kraftwerk slot.. or find me anytime any subheadliner didn't play immediately before the headliner (even Love & Rockets, who subbed, but played Outdoor, still played between the sub-sub and the headliner)

MATT & KIM NEED TO BE TAKEN OFF THE MAIN STAGE.
Shut up already. They're a mid-level buz band with enough attention, have more mainstream cred than half the bands on Sunday, and work on the mainstage during the day, which is the hardest stage to book in the middle of the day. They're at circa-2007 SSPU-levels of popularity, and that's where SSPU played in 2007.
Upcoming Shows:
- Caribou @ The Fonda in Los Angeles on Saturday, February 28th
- The Replacements @ The Palladium in Los Angeles on Wednesday, April 15th
- Belle & Sebastian + Mac Demarco @ The Fox Theater in Pomona, CA on Thursday, April 16th
6x Coachella Attendee (2007 - 2011, 2014a)
I just removed Gil Scott-Heron and moved Hadouken! to the Sahara.
So why isn't Orbital last?
"HIGH END RAP MUSIC! GHETTO STADIUM SHIT! THEY AIN'T WANT US AT THE FESTIVALS
NOW WE WILL RUN THEM!"
-Kanye West
I think it's pretty likely that Orbital will indeed close out the Sahara.
But that would mean Thom Yorke would go on around 6:30ish.. And that is just really hard to imagine.
How come no Local Natives at 3?
maybe switch with babasonicos?..
Club 75's set is still too short.
They will get 90 mins AT LEAST.
As I said in previous posts, any one of the guys in this sextet would be given an hour slot if they were DJing by themselves.
And in 2007, before Ed Banger took over the hipster world of dance music, Busy P and DJ Mehdi were given a nearly two hour set.
That was two DJs, this is six DJs.
That was two guys who almost no one knew at the time, this is six guys who almost everyone knows and two of whom could headline the sahara (and have).
Give them 90 mins at least. I'm expecting closer to 105 mins, but we'll see.

Clumsy, please for the love of god do not put Orbital against Gary Numan.
Orbital vs. Gary Numan is just as bad, Forza.
The two movie icons Charlotte and Yann won't conflict, switch Yann with Talvin.
I think Soft Pack -> King Khan ->Little Boots -> Jonsi -> Deerhunter -> Florence -> Sunny Day -> Julian Casablancas -> Yo La Tengo is more likely for the mojave.
Deerhunter and Spoon should not conflict. They're touring together. It'd be awkward for them to share the same audience night after night then have to compete for festival goers' attention. Maybe switch Deerhunter and Khan?
Also, I still see Pavement into Thom into Gorillaz. Pavement's a total sunset act, like 7 to 8:20. Thom from 8:50 to 9:40. Gorillaz at 10:30. that's how I'd design it at least.
I don't understand the "logic" of Yorke going first. He's still the heart and soul of the greatest rock band on earth and he's got motherfucking Flea on bass. West coast freaks and intellectual snobs unite!

I agree, Spoon/Deerhunter conflict seems unlikely..

I never understood why you need more than 2 guys to man the decks. Even 2 seems lazy at times. Second concern, is Club 75 basically a glorified DJ set? is there anything special going on there at all as far as instruments are concerned or is it really just 6 guys playing Ipod shuffle?

If Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo or Thomas Bangalter get tag in for Club 75 .
According to how it looks here i might just watch their set

Also, i don't think it matters that Plastikman and Pavement are both rare acts. Plastikman and Pavement are completely different genres. Hopefully they find a way to make this work.. no one should miss the end of Orbital or the beginning of Gorillaz, or really any part of either set.
Best solution? Plastikman to Friday or Saturday, preferably Saturday.
see you in '12
Move orbital to saturday!
It's not a glorified DJ set, it IS a DJ set. They have never said anything publicly to lead us to believe it would be anything other than a DJ set.
And it's not 6 guys playing an ipod shuffle, you bozo.
If you have such clear disdain for DJing, why would you ever consider coming near the Sahara tent? 80% of the acts who play there are DJing rather than playing live. Cool your heels and enjoy it, it's a dance party not a display of technical prowess and unmatched musicianship. If you are coming to a DJ set expecting to see music being made before your eyes, you are missing the point of a DJ set.
