Steel Train are natives from New Jersey who released Trampoline in 2007 inspired by 9/11. The lyrics are heartfelt and very personal, generally based on lead singer Jack Antonofs experiences of the tragedy (he is also a member of Fun, for those who are more familiar with that project). The music is poppy, nothing earth-shattering but highly enjoyable.
The real selling point is Steel Train live. Jack wails on guitar, playing like a madman. The band is super-tight with their harmonies and drop in great covers of old songs on a whim, particularly songs they covered for their 1969 EP, which included covers of songs released in 1969.
Jack Antonoff also briefly dated Scarlett Johansson. I'll let you all post the pictures.
They are currently touring with Tegan and Sara and will have a new album out in the spring.
