Well, according to a message board devoted to Joanna Newsom, her new album may very well be out in November.

Man, I really really hope so. I get all giddy just thinking about the possibility that I could have a new Joanna album in a little over a month.

Very good news! And, unsurprisingly, the single is absolutely gorgeous:

Such good news!! I listened to Ys again today and that album never ceases to give me goosebumps. I love her so much and I really hope this also means I'll have the chance to see her soon.

    New song is great too.

JoAnna Newsom hasn't ever played Coachella? Subheadliner if she does now?

I think she'd sub no question. And though it would be a treat it would underwhelm only as far as how many songs she'd be able to play

I wouldn't want to see her in a setting like Coachella. If anybody was talking or not fully engaged (which surely there would be), I'd get so bummed. The sound bleed from other stages would be horrible too.

I think she would be in a tent. I think the people who love her, love her, but at Coachella as it is now, I think she's not that big of a name.

Yeah, she doesn't belong at Coachella where a bunch of jackasses in headdresses will keep yelling for Lana Del Rey as Jo plays, despite the fact that Lana is up on a different stage.

She's so talented. I need to listen to her older albums today. I'd like to see her at Coachella if for no other reason than I will be there, and I don't know if she will tour here. (hopefully!)

I think she would be in something like the Mojave as well. But her billing could be similar to Ride or St. Vincent this year. Maybe not in terms of popularity but in how rare it is for her play a festival or even tour.

^The same thing happens to me like once a month and it's so frustrating. Same with Bill Callahan/Smog.

She did two Arizona dates last tour, and they were magical.

What I'm noticing most on Sapokanikan is that she has really developed as a pianist. Rather than sticking to more basic framing and rhythms, she's starting to get more of that subtle rhythmic pull that makes her harp playing so fantastic. Also, I love her for including a recorder in the climax of the track. Who else uses recorders in music besides gradeschool students?

I remember, Bryan, I was there for one of them. But I've noticed sometimes artists will come here for one tour and not for another.

I'd say the response at both shows was pretty fantastic. I could see her West Coast itinerary being very similar. She hit pretty much every major market city and most of the mid-market places as well. I imagine Tuscon was a stop because she's so into weird old America ephemera and there's lots of that history and oddity out there.

Okay assholes, the album's out there as of today. Let's talk about how crazy good it is. She has more control over her vocals than ever before, there is more musical variation, lyrically she is as strong as she was during the Ys period and she returned to the concision and focus of The Milk-Eyed Mender. Ys will probably always be my favorite album, but I am fast converting to the opinion that Divers is her best release.

I'm gonna go to her show here since you always have such high praise of her, but I've honestly never gotten into her much.

She puts on the best show I've ever seen. I mean, I saw that as a HUGE fan, but she is such a talented performer, her band is always top-notch, she is so charming and affable onstage, and she really does shred like Eddie Van Halen. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with one of her shows.

Giving this a listen and this is some high brow stuff and not saying that in a bad way. She is really captivating on record - similar to how I felt when discovering Nils Frahm. I think she may have been a druid magician in another life. A quality folk album you will hear this year. I would see this live.

I'm waiting for a good time to sit down with the record and fully absorb it. Tonight just wasn't working so probably tomorrow. I'm sure I'll absolutely love it but will get back to this thread after a listen.

it's frustrating how anti-spotify/streaming she is, I will still buy her record but its not so convenient as to have her catalog on the go.

Yeah, that show was great. And you're right about Tucson. It has a lot of culture and history and kind of flies under the radar with most people, but still has a great music scene (it was hard to leave).

Also, I'm about halfway through Divers and it's one of the best I've heard all year.
