RIP Vic Chesnutt

Beloved Athens musician Vic Chesnutt has died after slipping into a coma Thursday night. While they have not been confirmed, rumors point to suicide.
Chesnutt is one of the true gems of the Athens music scene; confined to a wheelchair since before he moved to town, Chesnutt was first discovered by R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe (who produced his first albums) and has been well known since for his dark, moving and highly-autobiographical songs. His illustrious career would include more than a dozen other records, including two in 2009.
In what has been a banner year for all the wrong reasons in Athens, Chesnutt is the fourth high-profile local musician to pass. He was 45.
