Thread: Hard Rock / Metal / Hardcore 2015

Default Hard Rock / Metal / Hardcore 2015

I know there's a very limited amount of bands booked in this category, but who do you think are contenders?

    1. Marylin Manson. New album in January. Playing festivals next year in February, March, May and June but no April dates.
    2. Faith No More. New album in April. Playing festivals next year in February, March, May and June but no April dates.

Other bands that might be possible, but no evidence except lack of conflicting schedule: The Dillinger Escape Plan, Deafheaven, Mastodon, Between the Buried and Me, Animals as Leaders, Uncle Acid & the deadbeats.

I wouldn't even be surprised if GV booked Babymetal...

Deafheaven should play. They fucking destroyed outside in the sun at Fun Fun Fun. They should get Pallbearer.

Isn't converge playing with at the gates? At the Gates would be amazing!

Yes, Converge is playing with At The Gates and Vallenfyre. Pallbearer is the 4th unannounced band for this tour. But they're all playing elsewhere during the Coachella dates.

From the live videos I've seen Babymetal would be wild.

I was so excited to see Deafheaven at FYF, and maybe it was just me, but the mix sounded awful. The screaming drowned out the music when it should be the other way around. I dunno.

If I had to pick one band filling the role of "the lone metal band at Coachella", it'd probably be Mastodon in 2015.

Yeah Deafheaven's mix was really bad at FYF, I left halfway through. The drums were also way louder than everything else, and you could only hear the guitar during the soft sections.

    5/1 - Lightning Bolt @ The Chapel
    5/16 - Noel Gallagher @ Humphreys
5/24 - The Rolling Stones @ Petco Park
5/28 - Neutral Milk Hotel @ Observatory North Park
    6/5 - July Talk @ The Hideout
    6/10 - Agalloch @ The Casbah
    7/9 - Pokemon: Symphonic Evolutions @ Embarcadero
9/23 - Future Islands @ Observatory North Park
    9/28 - AC/DC @ Dodgers Stadium

Mastodon would be awesome. Their new song motherload is so killer.

I'd love to have Northlane play being totally honest. They are my fav new metal band. Not sure if they fit Coachella but they would be sick!

Mastodon, Deafheaven, Touché Amoré, Kvelertak, The Menzingers, Dillinger Escape Plan, Electric Wizard, Leftover Crack, BTBAM, Animals as Leaders, Meshuggah, The Flatliners, NOFX, Rancid, Kylesa, Neurosis, Protest the Hero, and Fall of Troy would all be welcomed by me (included some punk too).

The bands make sense too in regards to new releases and cross-over appeal.

I've seen Deafheaven 5 times, and FYF was the only disappointment. I think all the blame rests with the sound guy though, because he had no idea how to properly mix them. Their set at FFF was proof that they can play in the middle of the day, outdoors, at a festival. I think they would be great at coachella.
This ain't no middle of the mall shit.

And even as much as I preferred the Fun Fun Fun show overall, I thought they sounded much better at the nights show in a small venue. Their sound is probably more than a little confusing to most sound guys.

Has Pig Destroyer ever played the West Coast? Not since Phantom Limb, as far as I can tell.

The answer is Sleep. It's always Sleep. Let them close the Gobi or Mojave with a 90 minute set and I'll buy tickets to both weekends.

    May 15-17 - Psycho California
June 6 - The Rolling Stones
    June 10 - Melvins
    June 20 - Blur
    June 24-28 - Glastonbury
    July 18 - Death Grips?
July 26 - Faith No More
    September 25 - Kraftwerk

Most hardcore would suck at a place like Coachella, but I'm all for Sleep, one of the best shows I've seen this year

Sleep would be fucking amazing! Also way down for Mastodon and BTBAM. BTBAM always puts on a ridiculous show. I could see all the Sahara Tent kids running away in fear.

Yup. I saw that and that definitely changed my mind. That, plus the fact that one of my best friends lives walking distance from the Roxy. I kind of doubt I can convince her to go to the show though.

Well, last time I convinced her to go with me to a show, the singer of Monotonix stuck his hand in her mouth. She researches any acts beforehand now.
