Hey John are you prepared to die a media-hyped death at the hands of Islamic extremists whom America can't seem to exterminate fast enough tomorrow? Wolf Blitzer not withstanding?

I stayed at home all day and streamed Animal Planet and the New York Phil.

Today I am sick and that means we are not using our Two Gallants tickets. They are playing the Mercury Lounge. It is sold out. Show at 9:30, TG at 10:30. Holla if you want them.

    EDIT… TICKETS ARE TAKEN

Hey, I am good. I am happy to have the option of trying for tickets to see Radiohead I am going to pass; they will not upstage ATP for me.

This is indeed a fantastic week for shows... though I may only make it to maybe Evangelista on Friday and Evangelista or Fucked Up on Saturday. Oh, and Elbow on Sunday. That is enough for me, I say.

If you wait to try to get into SNL let me know and I may be able to stop by with provisions/well wishes/etc; that is only two blocks from here.

And this will mark my first trip there as well, so these links are extremely helpful. Thanks guys!

If anyone has anymore current info regarding music venues or bands playing in mid December this year, please let me know. Thanks!
There are many great shows already - Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings (2 shows,) the National (4 shows,) My Morning Jacket with Band of Horses - and I am sure more will be announced in the next few weeks. I'd consider signing up for emails from Bowery Presents and or checking Oh My Rockness.

Also what are you looking to see on Broadway?

I will be in Paris and London during that time, so you'll have to blow a straw full of water in someone else's face.

    Also...

Hey, NYC friends and well-wishers: My band, Chekhov's Wig, is playing its final show at the Knitting Factory on Monday night!

We're playing a set of completely rearranged Duran Duran songs for the event, so if you're around and want to have a swell time and see me smash the living shit out of the venue's house kit, swing on by.

We're on around 9:30 or so, I believe. At least that's the plan. Hope you'll be able to make it out - There's lots of good bars/restaurants right there, so if you want any recommendations, let me know.

I hope you guys are available Dec 6. I get in on the 5th, but I don't get in until like 8:00pm and I'm going to be beat. I'm leaving PHX very early, stopping in PIT for a couple of hours to conduct a workshop, and then getting on a plane to LGA.

It's a date. Remember, I'll be at LGA, so someplace that's easily accessible via PT is vury ideal.

I post in here too often offering up tickets, but, yeah. Some friends dropped out and I have an extra pair of tickets to see Sebadoh with Mazes this Saturday, November 12 at Music Hall of Williamsburg. I am going to the show so we could meet there, or there is Manhattan. I am not looking for money (but I would not refuse a beer, haha.)

It should be a great show; a friend just saw them in Georgia and said they sounded great and had very entertaining banter.

I would have loved to see one of those shows from the National - I really liked the venue - but neglected to get good tickets.

I think everything else I'm in for is The Weakerthans play Reconstruction Site on Friday, a NY Phil CONTACT! concert on the 17th and whatever weekend operas I can get drawn for.

Jandek is playing two dates in Brooklyn at Vaudeville Park

Accompanying Jandek March 23rd, will be Rachelle Lalonde, vocals, Ian M Colletti, classical guitar, harps, violin, vocals and Valerie Kuehne, cello and vocals.

March 23rd's performance will be taped live for an upcoming Episode of ESP TV.

There will also be a 2nd Performance of Jandek at Vaudeville Park, Monday March 26, with Rachelle Lalonde, vocals, Alan Lewandoski, guitar and Ian M Colletti on various instrumentation.
Trying to decide which one I will go to; I am leaning towards Friday night but I would have to mess with some plans.

I'm going to vacation here with the boyfriend for about a month starting on my birthday Aug. 9th and returning on Sep. 5th.

I booked my flight a few hours ago (hurray).

I visited a few years ago but only for a few days. I got to see Rockafella, Radiocity, Timesquare, Central Park, and the Museums around it. It was a great time!

Since I'm going to spend a month in NYC, I will now thoroughly read through this thread! I'm also looking for suggestions. I know I want to see St. Patrick's Cathedral. I'm a pretty boring person so things like that I'll be able to think of on my lonesome.

After day 20 I may have some trouble thinking of things to do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. (Mayhaps some "Man, I wish I was there so I could go see.." shows to attend.) Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Damn missed Bon Iver by about a week.. /cry

You can see The Flaming Lips, Grizzly Bear, Grandmaster Flash, etc at Stephen Colbert's festival on the WWII aircraft carrier Intrepid on August 10th.

Oh My Rockness is a good resources for concerts. August does seem uncharacteristically sparse, though.

There are Broadway (and off-) shows you could see such as the Book of Mormon, Silence! The Musical (off), etc. Shakespeare in the Park's production of Into the Woods in Central Park continues for a few more weeks. Tickets are available by lottery or waiting from very early in the morning (incidentally this is how many cheap tickets for Broadway shows can be obtained).

The Mostly Mozart festival is going on if you want to see classical music.

I liked Grant's Tomb and still want to visit the Cloisters. I really enjoyed the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens but I went when the Jim Henson exhibit was on (they currently have a special exhibition on MiB 3). They also do film/TV screenings, so you could, say, see Cosmopolis with David Cronenberg or episodes of the Muppet Show or whatnot. There are other great films and screenings; I still haven't found a way to hear about them all but you can check out Nighthawk Cinema, Lincoln Center, etc if that is what you are interested in.

There are many lovely parks that may be fun to explore when the weather is nice; I have been to Prospect Park and Brooklyn Bridge Park recently and enjoyed my time.

I am rambling a little, there are so many things that it can cause option-paralysis. What might you want to do? What might you want to see? The list of things you saw on your last trip are cool but don't seem to narrow down your interests any, which is why my suggestions may seem all over the place.

I am going to be in NYC next week. Unfortunately, I will be busy with work stuff pretty much morning noon and night. John I will be in your neighborhood so if I get some free time I may call you out of the blue if that's ok.

I go home Friday morning which is pissing me off because I would really really love to go to Colbchella, which I didn't know about until just now.

Yus! I've been checking the Colbert website for tickets to this but I'm not sure i'll get it.

I scoured the site already and I agree.. I found the two shows listed in my sig. I'm excited. Seeing Screaming Females might just make up for the lack of shows.

Ah, Thanks! That sounds promising. I did see something about Shakespeare in the Park while I was there a few years ago but I didn't know about the lottery system.

Nice... $25 tickets are something that I can do.

I'm extremely excited about seeing the parks. I loved central park so much. I'm glad you suggested these.

No, Not rambling. You're right, I didn't list any interests because I want to keep an open mind about the trip. I want to have as many different experiences as I can while I'm there (I'm from a fairly small city). I know that I want to go to the Nintendo Store... /nerd.

The Nintendo Store is fun! And depending on how that week goes I may see Screaming Females too; I have not seen them since I've moved to the area!

My favorite restaurant may be Totto Ramen. They do meal-sized bowls of hand-pulled noodles with fantastic broth. It's a small place with only 20 seats so there can be a wait.

Empanada Mama is also great; I could eat their empanadas several times a week. The Brasil and the Greek Sausage Pie are my favorites. The Romeo & Juliet is my favorite dessert empanada.

I am excited to go back to Wechsler's Currywurst & Bratwurst which has fantastic sausages, fries and beer.

A friend recently visited and wanted to go to Defonete's Sandwich Shop after seeing the place on some TV show. I am glad we went; their sandwiches were delectable.
