Holy shit, Willie Hutch's soundtrack to The Mack is seriously incredible (like, almost as good as Superfly incredible).
excellent, he seems transformed, much more confident, and just seems to be enjoying himself more on stage, from the paris show to now. can't wait for the new album.
Man, what a voice! You guys are posting lots of good stuff.
Seeing D'Angelo next Tuesday. I'm hoping to hear some new material.
Them Two only recorded one song. There is only one photograph of the two men together.
rejoice in this song
haha. That sugah daddy song is really good. here is article that noisey wrote regarding the album complete with lyrics:
At the House of Blues he played Sugah Daddy, Ain't That Easy, The Charade, Really Love and Another Life. I remember Another Life being the best of the five, and that Really Love was as upbeat and catchy as anything he'd ever done. Each of the songs was great.
"HIGH END RAP MUSIC! GHETTO STADIUM SHIT! THEY AIN'T WANT US AT THE FESTIVALS
NOW WE WILL RUN THEM!"
Man. Black Messiah is remarkable after an initial listen. He could have played it safe and merely made a Voodoo 2.0, but this is certainly not that. "1000 Deaths" made me think that he was gonna get super weird for a minute there, and the album really isn't all that odd aside from that tune. "Sugah Daddy" is easily one of the better singles from this year. How do we rank this among the albums of 2014 without coming off as a completely reactionary hypebeast though? Haha.
I've waited fourteen years for this album, been living with a few of these songs for two, and I've already listened to the album seven times. It's my album of the year, no doubt. There's nothing else this year that was as remotely shocking yet comforting, and only Run the Jewels approached the topicality of this album, only without the bizarre sense of song craft, insane catchiness and almost inhuman band chemistry. There are two years since 2000 that an album this funky, good and wholly designed to hit my pleasure points where this would not have made my top spot at the time (2006 and 2010.)
Damn. Black Messiah's actually a pretty bad ass guitar album...daaaamn
"Mr. Toad's Wild Aidz."
I just want to live inside the new D'angelo album for the rest of time
