Green Day shouldn't. At least not yet. I have never been able to get into the Smiths and I have tried but I understand their influence.

Green Day at the bottom really? They're the most successful nominee on here. They pretty much helped shape the punk rock scene in the 90s and have sold over 75 million albums and singles. It won't take longer than 2 years for them to earn a spot in here

I know what you are saying, and the way they shaped the POP punk scene is great, but that scene vanished back in 2002. No matter how often you give it CPR it wont come back to life. The rest of those artists are all major players in shaping the music industry as well as their respected genre. This is a very very stacked nominee list.

I think Nine Inch Nails might get snubbed because of Kraftwerk. And as a die hard NIN fan, I can actually accept that. Only 5 inducted.

Ditto. The only songs I really like by them are 'William it was Really Nothing' and 'This Charming Man'.

    Never liked SRV either.
We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.

Definitely see The Smiths getting a few sympathy votes because of Morrissey's health. Does this mean if they're inducted there's a possibility of them playing together during the ceremony?

It's an interesting question. I don't imagine Morrissey much wants to be in the same room or on the same stage as Mike Rourke, but his ego wouldn't let him avoid it unless he could pull out some vegan cause to keep him from being there, right?

Couldn't they just not invite Mike Rourke also if the Smiths did reunite for the rock n roll hall of fame. Imagine the fucking second market ticket price on those bad boys when they already go for like $2,000 face price.

Moz would probably appear if Joan Jett and Lou Reed are also inducted. And the only song I bet he'd perform is "Satellite of Love." I'd really like to hear/read his thoughts on each of the nominees.

Yeah, I do remember the Blondie induction being particularly awkward.

I'm glad Green Day is going in over The Smiths because I feel like it's an insult to Morrissey and that makes me happy.

No offense but Green Day is going to be remembered as one of the greatest punk bands ever. No rock band was bigger than Green Day when they released American Idiot as well. They helped revive rock music with Dookie and made great bands like blink-182 step up their game

Green Day stamped their passport for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when they reinvented themselves in their third act as dues-paying members of classic rock town. The people who vote for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame eat that stuff up. See also, Grohl, David and Vedder, Eddie.

Green Day had a hell of a social media push to get people to vote for them, so blame it on the people. I'm fine with them getting in there some day, but over Kraftwerk, NIN, NWA, Chic, and (I guess) The Smiths, just seems wrong. Joan Jett deserves it.

Joan Jett, Lou Reed, cool...but fuck yeah Green Day! Don't wanna be an American Idiot! One of the few bands that was willing to take a political stand, even after their commercial success...a true American punk rock band.

I never got the notion that a punk rock band couldn't have commercial success. Fuck that. Green Day are the biggest punk rock band ever, commercially. Granted the Clash, the Ramones and the Sex Pistols are at the top of the mountain, they were the innovators, but Green Day deserve this imo, and it warms my heart to see a punk rock band taking top honors.
