The second annual Sunset Strip Music Festival is set to impress with a weekend full of surprises and history-making performances. The festival is set for Sept. 10-12 and kicks off with a special tribute honoring rock icon Ozzy Osbourne at the House of Blues.
The all-star tribute will include special guests and live performances. The SSMF tribute event honors icons who have made an impact on the legacy of The Sunset Strip. On Ozzy Osbourne’s first U.S. tour with Black Sabbath in 1970, the band performed a five-night stand (Nov. 11-15) at the Whisky A Go-Go. Osbourne’s career has spanned four decades and his music is as relevant today as ever. The multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide—50 with Black Sabbath and as many as a solo artist—and in 2003 was honored with a star on Hollywood Boulevard’s “Walk of Fame.”
Virgin America, V Australia and the Mondrian will host a VIP cocktail party at SkyBar on Friday, Sept. 11, before all six venues—the Cat Club, House of Blues, Key Club, The Roxy Theatre, Viper Room and Whisky A Go-Go—open their doors for a full night of music showcasing top talent and diverse lineups.
Saturday, Sept. 12 offers a full day of music with the first-ever street festival on The Sunset Strip! The boulevard will be closed from Doheny Drive to San Vicente from 2-9 p.m. and will feature live performances on two outdoor stages as well as shows in the music venues. Food vendors, beer gardens as well as other entertainment fill out the afternoon. After the outdoor performances finish, the clubs will remain open, continuing the celebration of music.
Tickets will be available at varying levels: VIP, All-Access multi-day passes, street fest only tickets, and individual tickets to clubs.
SSMF 2008 included performances by B Real featuring Slash, Hot Hot Heat, Juliette & The Licks, Louis XIV, Hellogoodbye, The 88, Dilated Peoples and a tribute to Sunset Strip icons Lou Adler, Mario Maglieri and Elmer Valentine.
