I thoroughly enjoyed Casino Royale in the theater, I thought it lost lots of steam the last third and the love story was forced and a mood killer (but necessary for this movie it seems) but it was ultimately entertaining. I recently re watched it on tv not too long ago and it just didnt have the same effect on me. Craig is good (and that bathing suit scene is beyond memorable) but his cold icey wooden approach to Bond just takes some getting used to (he was fantastic in the torture scene though). I dont hate him (No EFF Daniel Craig, I promise) but i've just been quite partial to my Pierce

I'm not a fan of Craig as Bond. Nor am I a fan of the cheesy action flicks Bond films have become. There is too little espionage and meaningful dialogue, verbal jousting if you will.
Actually Casino Royale was NOT cheesy action at all, and that was its main appeal. The series was laughable with some of the Roger Moore stuff in the 80's but imo (I'm a pretty big Bond guy) the main low point was Bronson's Die Another Day and The World Is Not Enough, both terrible terrible Bond movies, Denise Richards anyone? Both are full of bad dialog and "cheesy" action. Craig breathed new life into the series with Casino Royale and did so with a (slightly) flawed but very good script, great acting, and action that you felt sitting in your seat watching it.
With Casino Royale, Craig established himself as a qualified actor that could more than handle the role, with QOS he is Bond. These two movies make Pierce and Moore look like a cartoon characters.
layer cake was fucking awesome. as soon as I saw it, I KNEW craig would be the next bond. before the rumours were even flying about it. I haven't seen quantum of solace yet.
craig's bond is much truer to fleming's vision of the agent. he managed to make bond into an emotionally impaired human being, as opposed to a one-liner dropping, wacky secret weapon toting, tuxedo with shaved balls
so yeah. the 'new' bond is actually very much the OLD bond, and what we had in the middle with moore and brosnan was about as true to life as the N64 version of goldeneye.
I'm not discounting those films or that game (complex with proximity mines to 20 kills, anyone?), I just feel that with casino royale, a new era in the bond franchise began. one where fans are once again given legitimate opportunities to suspend their disbelief.
Fuck, I agree with you guys. I thought Daniel Craig was so good because he doesn't play the camp factor, he doesn't play the overblown idol, he plays James Bond as a person. It's awesome to see that, and I think he's doing a great job with it.
Quantum was the name of the organization, stinkbutt, and the movie is about him finding solace after the events in Casino Royale. Maybe?
