Thread: new wilco album/tour

Flip side to that is for someone who really enjoys Wilco but is not a "die-hard" fan I thought the setlist tonight was a bit weak. A Ghost is Born is my fave album and we got zero songs from it. Would have been nice to have a mix of deep cuts and more well known songs but last night seemed to be all about the deep cuts.

Also, agree w TallChris omission of Spiders is huge. That was my fave part of the 09 show. Someone in the front row actually had a real spider with them and Tweedy said something like "Creepiest song request ever"

Overall, I thought show was decent but nothing that spectacular.

My theory is the band isn't going to play Bull Black Nova and Spiders in the same set because they sound somewhat similiar and there is this theory that Spiders was sort of the blueprint. Personally, I would prefer they swap out Bull Black Nova for Spiders. I like spiders much more.

I had no idea this happened on NYE. The Flaming Lips + Nels Cline do the Beatles.

Aside from collaborating with everyone on god’s green earth, The Flaming Lips’ other current fascination appears to be covering The Beatles. We’ve already witnessed Wayne Coyne and co’s tripped out version of “I Am The Walrus”, and now Hidden Track points us to pro-shot footage of the band’s recent New Year’s Eve show in Oklahoma City, where they teamed up with Wilco’s Nels Cline for a 17-minute rendition of “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)”. Watch it below.

Wilco never disappoints my friend. Go to many of their shows as possible. They always change up their setlist and I'm jealous for CA folks getting 8 shows!

I would have to say one of my favorite Wilco shows was Spring 2010 tour when they played 3 hr set each night with an acoustic set in-between...

Does Tweedy never ever play any Uncle Tupelo songs in his/their sets? I know Son Volt regularly includes "Chickamauga", but I've never seen that from Wilco. "New Madrid" or "Gun" would seem to be good candidates.. a segue from "Outtamind Outtasight" into "Gun" would be pretty fuckin badass.

I would absolutley love to hear Gun. He plays those songs on his solo tours. I've heard both of them on bootlegs and stuff. I just checked Wilco Base and he has played it at many of his recent solo shows in 2011 and 2009 but Wilco hasn't played that song as a band since the late 90's.

As far as New Madrid goes, it's a little different. He has played that song both with the band and solo recently. So they definitely don't ignore that one and it's probably the most played Uncle Tupelo song they do.

It looks like Candyfloss makes it into the setlist about 2-3 shows per tour the last couple of years. Wilcobase is awesome for keeping all of these stats. They haven't updated with January shows yet but they will eventually.

Just type in a song and see how often it's played, at what shows and what else was played at that show.

Funny you mentioned Uncle Tupelo, I just started listening to the anthology about 15 minutes ago. I love this album so much.

As a fairly new Wilco fan who has never seen them before, I thought last night was fucking amazing! The selection of songs put aside, the performance was just absolutely incredible, and the lighting/projections are really neat. i was totally blown away!

The Black Keys into Wilco at Coachella would have been sweet. heh. Glad you enjoyed it, Andrew. It's always interesting to hear first impressions about a band i've seen near 20 times. over the past 8 or 9 years.

One of my favorite live concert moments. I posted this in this thread before but it never gets old to me. I was so fucked up at this show. These bros behind me started to offer me lots of booze and weed while we were waiting and once the show started I was paranoid as fuck but this moment was magic.

Basically almost sums it up for me. I wouldn't say it ruined my night...but I left that show pretty disappointed. Glad the die-hards were able to enjoy the deeper cuts though.

That's Wilco for you. When they play multiple shows in one city, you should always expect that the setlists will vary drastically across them. Some bands have pretty much the same setlist every show, so unless you're a freak for them, one show is enough. Wilco is the reverse. I'm catching 2 out of 3, missing out on Wiltern, and that's where they did my fave, but that's the risk I took, so no regrets.

I would have liked this, but I've mostly given up on Wilco coming back to Coachella. Maybe Jeff burned some bridges in 2004 when they had to cancel, or in 2005 when they played almost exclusively new material.

So I showed up at Wilco tonight and my seat was busted. The staff set up a folding chair right by the stage, so I got a super awesome seat out of it. White Denim were really good: they shred in tandem like it's nothing. I was entertained.

Wilco played Radio Cure, I Can't Stand It, Spiders (Kidsmoke) and Handshake Drugs. They were fuckin' killer. Such a good show.

Not only Spiders (Kidsmoke), but the awesome acoustic version of it. When they started things off with Less Than You Think, I knew it would be a good show, but it ended up probably being my favorite Wilco concert yet. A non-stop hit parade of amazing music, in a really neat venue with perfect sound. I loved it.

Apparently it was the first time they've ever done a concert there. I thought it sounded really good inside, and the venue itself was gorgeous. And hot damn is Nels Cline a monster guitar player.
