To be honest, I've only read a few of their non-sports related articles. I just feel it's not their forte. I'd be interested in reading some of the columns you mentioned, though.

Yeah, Greenwald and Hyden are both excellent, and occasionally they'll have Klosterman writing for them, which is a joy whether or not he's talking about sports. I just enjoy Grantland.

I think Simmons himself should stick to sports, but he has shown great sense in his non-sports hires.

You like Game of Thrones, right? Try Greenwald's recaps when the show comes back on. I don't watch GOT myself, but his reviews are almost uniformly excellent. Here's Hyden on the Black Keys; you might enjoy it.

Bryan, did you know Klosterman is now the NYT Mag's ethicist? I had forgotten until I happened across a hard copy of the paper a few weeks ago. Good stuff, as is his latest book.

Klosterman's ethicist columns annoy me nearly as much as Cary Tennis' columns.

Have they always done this (Pitchfork passes)? I'm pretty sure this is the first time!

Here, you can vote for your favorite albums, tracks, videos, and more. The poll closes on December 16th, at 11:59 pm EST. We'll publish the results in the new year.

All completed Readers Poll entrants will be entered to win a free one-year subscription to The Pitchfork Review, Pitchfork's new quarterly print publication, as well as a pair of tickets to the 2014 Pitchfork Music Festival, held in July in Chicago's Union Park, with two winners.

To qualify, you must fill out our Demographics section, following Music.

Thanks a lot for voting and thanks for reading Pitchfork.

That Carl Craig 5-10-15-20 that got posted recently is a fucking weird interview. He mostly chooses his own records and then barely talks about them, instead talking shit about ex-DEMF promoters and telling stories about taking ecstasy and watching Family Guy.

The Temples review is dead on. While listening to it, I kept thinking "This is alright and all, they wrote some decent songs, but do we really need another 60's psych-pop-rock cribbing record? Can't we let this thing die for awhile?"

Yes, I really dug the first Temples single I heard, and then when I listened to the actual album, it was just way too copy and paste. There wasn't a single track that I didn't like, but not a bit of it stayed with me the second I finished listening to the album.

The other thing that review got absolutely correct was recognizing that Tame Impala excels at this game precisely because Parker fills those albums with all of these little forward thinking sonic details. It's so much more than plugging in the 12 string Rickenbacker.

I didn't bother listening to the full album because this is mostly how I felt about the lead single that's been all over sirius xm.

That lead single is, without changing more than maybe one half of one note, "Taxman" by the Beatles. As much as I harp on bands for being "derivative", as long as you're adding something of your own to the pool I'm normally ok. But this is so damn blatant that I really can't even bring myself to listen to the album. Not to mention that they made THE most generic '60s album cover, completely aping The Who's Who's Next.

Man, Who's Next is actually an album that an ambitious young band would be smart to completely rip off. I would love to hear that.

Yeah, pretty much this exactly. Nothing about it was bad, per se, but song after song, as soon as it was finished I immediately forgot what it sounded like. I tried going back to it a second time after an unremarkable first listen, and found nothing there either. If anything, hopefully these reviews (because the majority of the reviews I have read on the album share this opinion) will push the band to experiment more and focus less on meticulously recreation, and more on genuine creativity. They have the potential, but this album just doesn't do it.

EDIT: Also, I agree with Mitch. More bands need to shamelessly jock The Who.

So even though I disagree with the score, I agree with most of what the reviewer says on this one. I think the handful of stand out tracks are what make this album enjoyable, and apparently none of them were produced by Carney.

I gave the album a listen today and turned it off after 3-4 songs. I didn't hate it or anything... just eh. Won't be bad background music while we're drinking beer and bullshitting at Psych Fest, though.

Hah, I feel the exact same way as well... Tracks 1-4 are some of the best songs they've ever done! After that, things are very hit or miss. Whatever, I love these dudes so much, I'll probably come around to the album as a whole and listen to it more than anything else this year.
