Ha...well, maybe not walking through fire, but each cover story has featured some pretty sweet, animated graphics in the context of the artist being profiled. I do agree with you that commercial promotion is an inextricable element of the Pitchfork cover story, but this has to go for all of them.

I dunno. The Ariel Pink piece pretty much consisted of a low level Pitchfork writer sitting in a shitty apartment in downtown LA with Ariel for half a day. Not a whole lot of effort was put into that story.

Reading the review for Soft Will leaves me at a loss for why it didn't get a higher score and a BNM. Bizarre.
    Upcoming Shows:

    • The Replacements @ The Palladium in Los Angeles on Wednesday, April 15th

I can't figure out why they would run the review of it so early, but yeah, it seems like the score didn't match the enthusiasm of the piece.

Feel bad I had to miss those dudes at Coachella.

So, who knew that My Beautiful, Dark, Twisted Fantasy was Kanye's worst selling album to date? At least Yeezus is here to beat that record.

Kanye peaked commercially with Graduation. It's funny because around hiphop circles he isn't very relevant anymore. Tallguy is right about one thing regarding Kanye, he stopped being "rap" when 808's came out. That was enough to turn off the same people who would have bought his album, add to the fact people aren't buying as many albums as before well it makes sense.

Edit- this record is a 7 not a fucking 9.5. Goddamn Pitchfork can't seem to forget about his big black balls!

They only gave him a 9.5 to hype up their Pitchfork France Festival. I'm sure they took money from Kanye's people as well.

I think this is Kanye's best album. While I may not agree with it being a 9.5, it is definitely an incredibly accomplished and daring album that deserves recognition. Kanye has said that he doesn't care about being played on the radio anymore and his experimentation on Yeezus shows Kanye really coming into his own artistically. He has probably wanted to make an album like this for a long time, but felt like this was the first time he was actually able to make it happen.

Maybe in backpack circles, but hip-hop as a whole talks a ton about Kanye.

I think both those tracks are great, and I usually hate reggae dudes on hip-hop tracks

edit: There is actually some Reggae dude at the beginning of "I am a God" which works fine there too

I like the pitchfork app in Spotify. Easy way to listen to their highest rated albums. Also, their music festival should be streaming live in a couple of weeks.
