Yeah, I had to enter a bunch myself. I also noticed that M83's self-titled was oddly not in the database even though it was reviewed, but I've not found any other such glitches.

Man, that original cover art for the Moon and Antarctica is so terrible. Unless it is an elaborate Pink Floyd joke, in which case it is actually awesome. I had forgotten about it until we all started putting together these lists.

    Staff lists

Cohen's list reminded me that I had forgotten Adore. Yes, I will defend it.

Adore is my favorite Smashing Pumpkins record. I still listen to it often.

You really do. One of the most consistent electronic/ambient producers around, and one of my personal favorites. Substrata was kind of an arbitrary choice as any of his albums could stand in for it.

I finished mine. Stopped ranking somewhere in the 60s, and even then, pretty arbitrary obviously. I tried to keep additions outside of their "library" to a minimum, as this is more of the top albums covered by Pitchfork list more than anything, although I'm pretty sure everyone of my additions was reviewed by the site at one point. I tried to be as honest as possible in regards to including stuff that I actually actively listen to on the regular and am really intimately familiar with as opposed to albums I know are probably better but that I haven't invested as much in.

Of the staff lists, unsurprisingly, Brandon Stosuy is the most interesting. And I fuckin' love the man for putting Unwound as his favorite album from that period.

Oh shit, and I forgot Iran - The Moon Boys.

Edit: I just made a few changes to my list. It's getting there. Out with the Hold Steady, in with Jamey Johnson.

Too bad Dominique Leone and Philip Sherburne aren't around any more to contribute lists, as I'd be very interested in theirs.

Mark Richardson's is pretty interesting too.

Yup, and I really liked Stephen Deusner's as well. They're the three I most trust. And Stuart Berman, who does some of the good metal and experimental stuff.

Duesner's runs rather rootsy. Interesting to see everyone's genre biases bringing in fringe things that color the more obvious, sweeping choices that tend to make a majority of lists.

And I think I'm switching my first two around.

Well if it wasn't rigged enough, right? Anyone want to compare the results to what P4k had readily available when you compiled your list? Just the stuff they had as suggestions. Its pretty much all of this. They knew what they were doing when attempting to make something look like ''the people'' voted for.

It's totally understandable for you to not like the sound of Jeff Mangum's voice, but he most certainly can sing, and he does it extremely well, and with a lot of control. His pipes are are amazing.

    It's a conspiracy! It's a conspiracy!

This list isn't at all surprising. I already said this on Facebook, but it's less a list of albums with the highest degree of artistic achievement and more of a list of the albums the largest amount of people can agree on. Yes, the rankings are dull as hell, but 90% of people who listen to the kind of music Pitchfork covers probably like Radiohead to some degree, and have a different favorite album, so there you are, four albums in the top 20. And then there's albums where maybe less people put on their list, but a good majority of them are so attached to it that they ranked it high, such as NMH. So yes, it's a rather unadventurous, uninteresting list, far less than most of our individual lists, but that's going to happen any time you take stock of what appeals to largest majority.

It more solidifies that I just don't care about Radiohead as much as most of their fans. Nice music, but jesus christ, they aren't the second coming of Bobby McFerrin.

I think OK Computer and Kid A deserve a significant portion of the praise they get, but I also don't think anything that came after that comes remotely close to reaching the level of those two, decent albums with some great songs though they may be. I'd much rather see their version of arena rock, filled with experimentation, genuine boundary pushing, and a sense of the personal and individual, get widespread devotion than something like Oasis or Muse or Coldplay or whatever. Canon is boring no matter what, but it could be a much worse canon.

The most interesting part of this for me was reading through the distinction index for each age group and seeing how widely it varied.

Patrick is spot-on. To the extent that he is correct, what I found surprising was that neither Outkast nor Daft Punk made the top 20. On a broad-based survey of taste, I thought that would happen for sure.

The only thing that's mildly surprising for me is The XX being in the top twenty. I knew they were widely liked, I just didn't realized people held them in such high esteem.

I had the same reaction to Fleet Foxes.

Meanwhile, not a single album from Sleater-Kinney made the list. Fuck Pitchfork and its readers.
