This ain't no middle of the mall shit.
8.6 and BNM.
Pitchfork nailed exactly what is so great and refreshing about White Lung's vicious and uncompromising new LP Deep Fantasy. I have seen the band a number of times, first time being in 09 (and played with them once), and every time they have blown me away. Everyone in Vancouver has known for years White Lung was going to blow up (most thought it would have been after their excellent 2012 album Sorry) and it is awesome to see the band, finally, getting this sort of recognition.
It's no secret he's a fucking douchebag, but wow. Looks like no more BNM's for him.
Lol self-described "genius"
12/3 Colleen Green, Deep Fields @ Harvard & Stone, 12/5 OOIOO @ Getty, 12/14 Chvrches @ Fonda, 12/16 Jennylee @ The Echo, 12/31 A Place to Bury Strangers @ Viper Room
Lulz aplenty on pitchfork today. Between that story and the Morrissey hitman one, assholes rule the day.
Edit: And yes, I know that the Morrissey story could very well be a baseless allegation, but it is too funny for me to picture Morrissey ordering a hit on someone because they gossiped about him, so I'm sticking with it.
Plus, even if he didn't actually do it and still loses the lawsuit, at least he'll truly know how Joan of Arc felt.
Pitchfork Wants Spoon's Soul (8.6 BNM)
Why does pitchfork find each cover that arcade fire does on this tour newsworthy?
He's come a long way since this interview with Black Flag
Caribou's Our Love 8.6 and BNM. Well deserved. It is a solid 9 in my opinion, but 8.6 aint bad. One of the year's best for sure.
Pitchfork's review of Prince's Art Offical Age essentially boiled down to "good by virtue of not sucking." That said, sounds like this will be a lot better than LOtUSFLOW3R.
6.3 for modern boxes. I give it a 4.3. Album sucks not much else to say. Not a single new sound. Not a single emotion felt. Just failure from a well known musician. Absolute failure.
Spicy pie is mainstream shit.
And somebody finally got a 9.0 again. Run The Jewels 2
Yesterday Grouper got an 8.8, her second BNM. How many female or artists, or even bands with female members have received more than 2 BNM?
And probably a lot more.
With at least 2 just through casually browsing:
Bat For Lashes
I'm sure there's more, and there's a ton of high ranking female artists across the site. Whatever you can say about Pitchfork, I don't think they have a gender bias in regards to the artists they review (any more than the music industry as a whole does).
PJ Harvey's last record got high scores, but so glad I re-discovered the one below. Pulled it out of an old 100 cd binder before a road trip to the Salton Sea and was a great soundtrack for driving through the Coachella Valley area. Except for "Who the Fuck?!", which was too loud and abrasive at the time of listening. Forgot what was even the album cover, but of course she nailed it. P4ork missed the ball though.
The pilgrimage is not perfected save by copulation with the camel.
Rid Of Me is basically the best album of all time
I sent a very angry message to Paul Tollet on facebook upon release of the 2011 Coachella set times about PJ Harvey only getting an hour for her set.
He didn't respond. Go figure.
Their "Pitch" feature is always sooo fucking horrible.
