April 24 - Queens of the Stone Age
April 26-28 - Levitation
Never did I think I would see the day where Pitchfork rated a new Gogol Bordello album higher than a new No Age album.
FWIW, I think An Object is a far better album than Everything In Between, and that the new Gogol Bordello album is garbage.
8.2 for Ty Segall. Well deserved.
5/22 - The Cure - Hollywood Bowl
5/31 - Brian Jonestown Massacre - Teragram (?)
6/07 - Chelsea Wolfe - Teragram (?)
6/14 - Silver Apples - Troubadour
6/16 - John Carpenter - Orpheum

I just started listening to Ty Segall - really good. Gotta check out the new album.
fuckin' with the lights on
I listened to half of Twins before I got bored with it and turned it off.
We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.
Jayson Greene absolutely unloads on the new Pixies ep.
Weird I like the EP and I have seen the Kim Shuttuck lineup play live before and didn't have any problems with it.

I can totally understand his point of view, but after two listens I don't agree with it. It's not the sound of classic Pixies by any stretch of the imagination, but I like the four songs. They're not great, but they're enjoyable, and honestly more than I hoped for from latter-day Pixies.
THESE FOUR NEW SONGS MAKE ME HAPPY. POST KIM DEAL. POST BAM THWOK!!!!! this is progression from one of the most saddening days in music I have ever had.At least we can maybe point the finger at Kim Deal for the worst pixies song ever. My favorite Pixies songs are from Frank Black and these El Rey shows make me so excited to hear the brick is red or Crackity Jones, broken face.

No Pixies without Kim...![]()
If Charles Thompson or Joey santiago werent in the band that would be something since their the core of the band.Kim Deal was just a person they found in a classified ad and Kurt Cobain was a fanboy of.
I've re-read this part of his review 10 times and still can't make any fucking sense of it.When I saw them play after they reunited, nine years ago, I distinctly remember the thrill, shared by the other twentysomethings around me, as we all sang along to “Hey”. This moment, maybe, wasn’t supposed to be. I was cheating death, or time, and like any good monkey’s-paw cautionary tale, it would certainly backfire in some way.

So Holy Ghost! released their album this week and they have been getting a good amount of coverage on Pitchfork, but the site seemed to have skipped on reviewing the album. They even included the album on the Most Anticipated Fall 2013 Releases list. Has this ever happened before?

rage will shake a "Y NO BNM" fist every time he puts on this record, months and years and decades after its release: he'll never forget.

How the hell did Pitchfork give Charli XCX - True Romance a 8.3 !!?!?!?
i saw the buzz machines going haywire on her and then i actually listened to her album..
Fukkin HORRENDOUS ..
dull as fuck, overproduced dance-pop album.. it's so by-the-numbers it makes Lady Gaga's albums sound avant garde
I don't understand the love for Charli XCX either, nor do I understand the current infatuation with London Grammar.

Charlie XCX was horrible when I saw her at Melt. Did not sound good live at all and her Backstreet Boys cover made me cringe. People sitting at the soundboard with me were not impressed either.
I keep wanting these "underground pop" sensations to end up being a Robyn situation and they never are. Similarly, I keep hoping all these indie dork approved luxury rap artists would end up being a Clipse situation and they never are.
Charli XCX used that Gold Panda sample in her first single, I think that's how she got noticed? I'm not sure, tbh. I do kinda like that single. The rest of the album is shit, though. And yeah, London Grammar is just another on the list of 2013 "buzz bands" that is thoroughly awful. Why this has been the year that people go ape shit for terrible, terrible acts is beyond me. Shall we tally the bands that fit into that description from this year? Let's see...CHVRCHES, Atlas Genius, Lorde, King Krule, London Grammar. Am I forgetting anyone?
