By the way, this saga between Death Grips and Epic annoys the shit out of me. Completely removed from a preference for or against their music these guys are straight up douche bags. If you want to do whatever the hell you please and distribute your own shit then don't sign a fucking major label contract. Then they post a respectful email written by this dude Heath at Epic with all of his info where it clearly says at the bottom the email is confidential...ugh, they are just such fucks. I get it. Fuck the man, bro, more power to ya but they just come off like childish assholes in my opinion. I'd throw the book at them if I was Epic.

Sorry, but you can't unilaterally impose confidentiality on the recipient. Publishing his contact details is legitimately screwy, but he can't demand they not publish the content of the email...

Not that I side with their behavior, but it's difficult to really judge this from the outside without a clear view of what they agreed to and the ways in which Epic might have prevented Death Grips from accomplishing what they set out to. Like I've said before, my gut says this is all publicity on Death Grips' part, but it would be hardly surprising to learn that Epic engaged in typical studio doublespeak.

I am by no means a legal expert, I was simply reading from the bottom there that states pretty explicitly that distribution, dissemination, or reproduction are strictly prohibited. Who knows if that holds legal clout though. I totally agree that I can't hold Death Grips to the sword completely as all i know of the situation is through media sources and I'm sure Epic wanted to milk money from a record they promised to be out this year. However, ultimately, I am with you on this being a publicity stunt which also rubs me the wrong way on their whole image.

Ryan Schreiber is slowly morphing into Roger Ebert. Essentially, an old fat lesbian.

They did just review the new Soundgarden

(Which I agree with from what I've heard. I haven't listened to the whole thing, but all I've heard is praises and the 4-5 songs I've heard have been massively generic and uninteresting.)

Well, it is Pitchfork. Of course they are not going to like the new Soundgarden album. What was so disrespectful though? Seemed fairly accurate.

The bigger deal for me: I didn't know there was a new Evens record coming out.

New Evebs has been streaming on NPR for several days. Sounds like, well, The Evens. I was suprised it scored an 8, but I've only heard it once, and not particularly focusing on it completely.

Yeah, for lots of bands that might be a complaint, but when Ian MacKaye is a part of an act then I'm fine with it just sounding like Ian-being-Ian.

But I'm also two songs in, and Wanted Criminals is like a stripped down version of stuff on In on the Kill Taker. More edge than most Evens stuff.

Same here. Their format doesn't really lend to a ton of variability in their sound, really.

Didn't catch the edge in my listen, but again, it was a multitasking background listen. Looking forward to listening again.

I'm on Competing with the Till right now and it's one of the most oddly jazzy things MacKaye has ever been part of. Really digging the album.

The new mega-advertising-centric Pitchfork homepage is god awful.

Just saw this post. I haven't, but I will check it out.

And Chris: Google Chrome+AdBlock add-on. Pitchfork is a nice, clean, white page.

Just finished listening to this album. Lyrically. Blake is on top of his game on this record. The first two tracks do absolutely nothing for me though, it just seems slow and plodding and just stumbles out of the gate. Starting with the third track though the album gets really good and is some of his best stuff.
