Think about when Stillmatic came out! Kendrick would have been 13-14... pretty formative music age if you ask me.

Money Trees is great btw. The "It go Halle Berre or hallelujah" play on words is brilliant. Still can't stand Backstreet Freestyle, haha.

I love Money Trees. The whole album is brilliant imo. You're supposed to hate Backseat Freestyle! It's irony lol. I like the song, but obviously if he wasn't being ironic he'd sound like a complete jackass. It fits in the story though.

It's the part where what's his name yells beeyotch repeatedly that makes me want to turn the whole thing off.

Also, re: Money Trees, I didn't notice it until someone on youtube pointed it out, but apparently he's sampling Beach House's Silver Soul in that song. So, I looked up what else was sampled and a site made a list of what songs were used, pretty interesting:

Kendrick Lamar – good kid, m.A.A.d. city – The Samples Tracklist
    01. Prologue
    02. Dreamscape Interlude (Prod. by Gianni Lee)
    03. Boom Clap Bachelors – “Tiden Flyver” (“Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe”)
    04. Suspekt – “Helt Alene” (“Art of Peer Pressure”)
    05. Beach House – “Silver Soul” (“Money Trees”)
    06. Janet Jackson – “Anytime, Anyplace” (“Poetic Justice”)
    07. Kanye West – “We Major” (“M.A.A.D City”)
    08. Ohio Players – ”Funky Worm” (“M.A.A.D City”)
    09. Grant Green – “Maybe Tomorrow” (“Sing About Me, I’m Dying of Thirst”)
    10. Formula IV – “What’s This World Coming To” (“Compton”)
    11. Kool and the Gang – “Summer Madness” (“Compton”)
12.Twin Sister – “Meet the Frownies” (“The Recipe”)
    8/05 - Wilco - Greek (?)

Actually Chris, alot of people are split on these albums. Much in the same way people are split between Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint, and the Black Album from Jay-Z.

I really like this album. And I haven't liked a hip hop/rap album in a long time.

In my opinion it's not. I like both the Black Album, and Blueprint more than Reasonable Doubt. Blueprint because of the theme throughout the whole album, and the production(Kanye and the soul samples). The Black Album because that is his peak in terms of being a lyricist, and his mastering a level versitily with the flow for each song that very few hiphop/rappers are capable of. Again, this is like debating your favorite Radiohead album. Some people might even say they like Vol.1-3 the best. It's a matter of preference, Jay-Z is just that great.

    Chelsea Wolfe - 9/19 - The Mohawk

By the way, this saga between Death Grips and Epic annoys the shit out of me. Completely removed from a preference for or against their music these guys are straight up douche bags. If you want to do whatever the hell you please and distribute your own shit then don't sign a fucking major label contract. Then they post a respectful email written by this dude Heath at Epic with all of his info where it clearly says at the bottom the email is confidential...ugh, they are just such fucks. I get it. Fuck the man, bro, more power to ya but they just come off like childish assholes in my opinion. I'd throw the book at them if I was Epic.

Sorry, but you can't unilaterally impose confidentiality on the recipient. Publishing his contact details is legitimately screwy, but he can't demand they not publish the content of the email...

Not that I side with their behavior, but it's difficult to really judge this from the outside without a clear view of what they agreed to and the ways in which Epic might have prevented Death Grips from accomplishing what they set out to. Like I've said before, my gut says this is all publicity on Death Grips' part, but it would be hardly surprising to learn that Epic engaged in typical studio doublespeak.

I am by no means a legal expert, I was simply reading from the bottom there that states pretty explicitly that distribution, dissemination, or reproduction are strictly prohibited. Who knows if that holds legal clout though. I totally agree that I can't hold Death Grips to the sword completely as all i know of the situation is through media sources and I'm sure Epic wanted to milk money from a record they promised to be out this year. However, ultimately, I am with you on this being a publicity stunt which also rubs me the wrong way on their whole image.
