I've been to Charlotte a ton of times. Only recommendation is to go eat at Price's Chicken Coop.
Jacksonville has a naval base.
Amelia Island is nice, but it's a bit of a hike out of central Jacksonville.
St. Augustine just south of Jacksonville is touristy as fuck, but it's better for a day of wandering around on foot than Jacksonville is.
After spending 36 hours in North Florida, I can assure everyone that all stereotypes you have of the state are still alive and well. As is the lord. And the 20 or so radio stations that sneak the righteous pathway to redemption into every song. Have you ever wondered what it’d be like to smoke pot with historical figures, like Jesus? No, but the guy with four ex-wives, five children, and three vasectomies sure has. Sad story, he actually loved two of his wives.
Only highlight was squeezing in a decent poker session in at Best Bet, a very nice poker room in the heart of Jacksonville. In fact, I discovered it via local radio show I came accross and they were talking about how people in Florida play poker. It was pretty accurate. They buy-in for the minimum and like to go all-in more than they should.
I drove out to the beaches (didn't make my way to St. Augustine) and wasn't all that impressed.
Does anyone have any suggestions on things to do in Santa Fe? I would welcome thoughts on food, hikes, historic monuments, drinking spots, etc.
Don't miss the old French shit!
And it's AWESOME.
I don't think body painting falls under the umbrella of requested suggestions.
Damn, I wish I had MS Paint skills.
Oakland is the easiest/best. SFO is usually a bit pricier and is known for heavy delays due to weather and general big-airport issues, SJC is quite a ways away. Oakland is just small enough to not run into as many delay issues, the BART connection is very easy (not quite as simple as SFO, but still pretty painless) and they have a Fenton's creamery in the concourse. Fenton's should be enough. It's where the old man and the kid got ice cream at the end of Up. Join the revolution.
If you're going to SF, though, I'd just do SFO. It's much more convenient and yeah, even though they're pretty retarded and only have two runways and close one of them when it's foggy, I've flown in/out of there a LOT and have only been delayed maybe three times.
Well, you could fly out of Oakland.
I spent a week in Oakland. No thanks cr****

Well, you asked "what are you gonna do about it?" I provided a viable Plan B. You're welcome to critique that alternative on its own merits, but whether you like the actual city or not is neither here nor there.
