wolfgang amadeus baby.
this new tune you're talking about isn't the same as twenty one one zero? i need to scour the webs for it then.
the inflections in mars' voice tickles me in a good way.
no its a totally different tune
i still cant believe they wont be at coachella. maybe next year
i missed them for metric in 06. kind of the only regret ive ever had

"1901" sounds like it was cut from the same cloth as Its Never Been Like That. this confused me a bit as i was expecting something a bit more extravagant - the title Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix and the song "Twenty One One Zero" has led me to believe that they're pushing for something more grandiose this time round. nevertheless, "1901" is a promising tune.
leak already!!! and tour dates, s’il vous plaît.

1901 is a lot of fun. That synth that dives into the chorus makes the song.
and it leaked
and it sounds amazing

who's the boy you like the most
is he teasing you with underage
love "Rome"
"Lisztomania" is nuts.
maybe i'm blinded by my love for this band, but this new album is quite a strong showing. it's short and satisfies my sweet tooth. just need a couple more listens to check how quickly i grow tired of the hooks.
FYI - posted by their manager on the Phoenix forum; i bolded the relevant info
so wait, there's a possibility that the finished version may be better than what's already out there?Hi Everyone,
Hope all is well as we roll into another weekend. We obviously couldn't help noticing that the record has leaked early and that some of you have already heard it.
We're happy to hear everybody is enjoying the tracks. Obviously, we would have preferred it not to get out so early (every act likes to be able to present their music in the desired fashion as i'm sure you all appreciate) but we're glad that it's being so well received.
We know some people download music as they can't afford to buy every CD they'd like to own (these are tough economic times after all) and we're not mad at you if that is the case, it doesn't make you any less important to us. We genuinely value all the support you give us and would rather you downloaded it for free than didn't listen at all.
If you do download it from P2P and enjoy it then check out the deluxe edition when it is released properly. We're going to load it up with special additional content to try to make it real value for money, it should make for a nice little package for those of you that like to have something physical. Hopefully there will be some nice extra tracks and a dvd to accompany the record.
We're also working on a nice super ltd edition package which we will be selling for a short time via our new webshop.
One thing we did want to point out is that the version that has leaked is not a finished mastered version and contains slightly different versions of several tracks to the ones which will be on the final album.
The audio quality will also be much improved by the mastering process.
It's a shame as the band really wanted to make sure everybody heard the final, fully realised version of the record but in the event that you do listen to the leaked version please bear this in mind.
That's it for now. Have a great weekend. More festivals and shows to be announced in the near future.
Best,
Simon
Or worse.

Definitely their strongest since United, IMHO.
1901 was a great track on its own but just fucking KILLS it in the context of the album.
So is the tracklist of the leak screwed up or something?
Just listened to the whole album, really good! Check out the track "Fences" probably my favorite.
ya, initial leak screwed up the track names. this is what it should look like instead
it's easy to figure out which tracks should be corrected based on the lyrics/length of the song.
there isn't a dud on this album, is there? i mentioned in the 2009 albums thread, and i'll say it again here, i think this is at least on par, but really even better, than It's Never Been Like That. if i had to point out one con, i'd say that i miss how sexy their old songs used to sound. remember this?
"Armistice" is my current jam. it's hard to pick a fav though!
Phoenix are going to be on SNL April 4th
http://stereogum.com/archives/phoeni...nl_060931.html
Phoenix will perform "1901" and "Lisztomania" on the 4/4 episode of Saturday Night Live. It'll be hosted by Seth Rogan.
recent SNL performances were rife with sound issues, so naturally i was worried Phoenix would encounter the same thing last night. their performance, however, was surprisingly decent! granted, Thomas doubled his vocals with a backing vocal track, which was noticeable at points. but, nice primer for their upcoming summer tour!
nbc.com has the video for "1901" and "Lisztomania" up on their site. they also played "Too Young" over the credits but nbc.com doesn't have that up. to spare you having to sit through their ads, here are the vids on Dailymotion.
Watch her moving in elliptical patterns
Think it's not what you say
What you say is way too complicated
from a mess to the masses!

Can I get a link?
Swoon! SF date please.
Wow, they sound really amazing live.
.
i wasn't paying much attention to the lyrics prior 'cos Mars accent is so thick at times, so i quite like how some of the focus of P4K's review is on the words. some of the lines are kinda brilliant, i must say.
i LOVE the video for "1901"
i don't care much for the "Lisztomania" video
bonnarooo

this album is pretty great, I know grizzly bear is getting a grip of attention, but this album deserves some love too.
I like this album more than Veckatemist.

Ughh my friend told me that she heard Phoenix playing on an episode of The Hills...very displeased indeed (that she actually watches that show and that Phoenix was on it).
Pitchfork likes it too... http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/...adeus-phoenix/
