Anyone who likes Torche should definitely check out FLOOR, the singer/guitarist's earlier band. Really great and not well known.

I listened to the new Pig Destroyer while walking to and from work today. It's phenomenal. The first four songs are the most brutal grindcore I've heard in quite awhile, then the rest of the album opens up and stretches out. Boston Strangler is one of the best rock songs I've heard in a long, long time. The riffs are just brilliant.
I just listened to their new album as well. Fuckin brutal! You can see their full set from last week here....

Pretty excited for Converge/Torche/Kvelertak on Friday.
Converge almost pulled a Baroness 2 days when their bus hit black ice
From Facebook:
Super scary! So glad they're okay. bummed I'm gonna be out of town when that tour makes it to L.A. this weekend.Yesterday, after ten hours of driving, we hit black ice in the Oregon mountains. We were forced to crash into a highway divider in order to keep from sliding under 18 wheelers. Though we were all alright, we were precariously stuck facing the wrong direction on the highway for a few hours. With a little ingenuity and the help of a highway worker with some tow chains, we managed to pry our bumper off our front wheels. A few hours later, we were back on the road. Never take anything for granted. Just got to Seattle, time for a positive show. Thanks people.

killswitch engage is getting back with their original singer and going to play the 'alive or just breathing' album in full
I'm going to this as well, I'm not a huge metal fan (I don't dislike it, but never really got into it for some reason) but I really love Sunn O))) and I'm listening to the new High on Fire now and it kicks ass. Hoping for good things from the other bands too, gonna check them out after I'm finished with this album. Let me know if you come and we'll meet up, I know a couple other boardies are interested as well.

Muse, you're not Deftones, stop covering them -- stop it.
In the So Cal metalcore/deathcore department, the singer of Suicide Silence is dead.
Wow, not suprised I guess, sad though

So Napalm Death has still got it after 30 years, they totally upstaged Exhumed and Municipal Waste tonight! This was a fucking party and a half, I would highly recommend this tour to anyone that is even slightly a fan of any of these bands.
Highlight of the night
DREAM BIGGER
"Nazi Punks" was probably the highlight of their Primavera set. I agree, totally fucking impressed with their show now. Their energy and ability to sustain entire sets at that blistering pace and complete raging intensity at their age is surprising and amazing.

That drummer itself would be amazing behind a band that doesn't have a live drummer. Liturgy needs to hire that.

So I've got a bunch of freeleech tokens that I've gotta use up. Recommend me some classic and contemporary metal albums that you guys think of as essential. Doesn't matter what genre, and feel free to mention things even if you think I may have heard it, as there are some serious gaps in my classic metal knowledge.
Should I be ashamed of how much I am loving Painkiller right now? I've never been able to fully get into Judas Priest, which is odd considering how much I love Maiden, but this is just awesome.
No you shouldn't, that album is rad. Bryan I would suggest any Mercyful Fate and the first 2 King Diamond albums, but these are kinda half assed suggestions and really not for everyone. I will try and think of some later when I get home
DREAM BIGGER
Painkiller is one of the best metal albums ever made. I haven't listened to Priest in over half a decade, but they really have a solid run of albums from the 80's to early 90's. I can't really speak to the 70's and 2000's albums though. Check out Screaming for Vengeance next if you haven't heard it yet.
I've listened to a good portion of the '80s material but nothing ever grabbed me quite like this. I was pretty floored by it. Maybe it's that entry point into being able to get wrapped up in their other work a bit more, though. I'll go back and revisit Screaming For Vengeance, Pea.
Same here, Bryan. I was always really heavy into Maiden (to the point where I was blowing all my money doing blanks and postage swaps with people in England for rare bootlegs in like ninth grade and, as an old friend reminded me when we were catching up the other day, making "the band" clumsily shred through "Infinite Dreams" as it hit midnight one New Year's Eve) and I always took the stance of one or the other between them and Priest for some reason. Obviously nothing will ever touch Maiden in my book but I've since come around to the idea that there's a lot of great stuff to tap into in Priest's catalog.
