You're close - lucky! I'm coming from CA. I went in 2003 and it was great and have wanted to go back since then but haven't been able to for various reasons. I'm more than just a little excited! Can't wait to see the line-up, I'm sure it'll be great. I'm hoping for some big names and also some I haven't heard of yet too.
i went last year and was blown away. i grew up in detroit and went the first couple of years. i was back in town on business and was blown away that weekend tickets were only like $40 or $50. they had 5 stages, all no joke production and talent. i am planning on going back again this year, why not for only $50, especially since all the other fests are 3 times the amount.
I live within walking distance to Smart Bar/The Metro.
Derrick plays Smart Bar fairly often.
Randomly wanted to go out on Thursday night. Went to Smart Bar. Derrick was there. I danced till 4 am. Afterwards I ate 3 hot dogs across the street and called it a night. Typical night out in Chicago ;/
you were on the CR message board? lol werent we all.
Pure board, cr, and a few real old ones...
I did some server stuff for MR. Clay is a good friend of mine. I have been trying to get him to Coachella forever. He lives in San Diego now.
I did server stuff for mw-underground too.
Now I troll midwest-edm from time to time. I am getting really pissed the mw-edm people are not posting cool events. The only thing they post is lame club stuff and loft parties. Besides...any of the good loft parties don't get posted. These new ravers need to learn about cut copy, justice, junior boys, etc more than they need to hear shitty bedroom DJs.
wow thats funny. I knew Clay but havent seen him since blueshift 2(I was part of poopiehead and trounce for awhile). I was the breaks mod on mw-underground. I still talk to jerry and ray baer once and awhile but thats about it. I still drop in one mw-edm somwtimes but that board really slowed down.
Average home price $18,513 - Unemployment rate 21%
The Great Depression has reached Detroit. The average price of a home is now $18,513 and unemployment has reached 21%, and it’s expected to get worse. Detroit is facing a crisis of epic proportions that officially puts Detroit statistically (and real term) on par with the great depression. Many readers of Tribble Ad Agency are advertising centric.. and due to the rash of layoffs within all Detroit Advertising firms has put the city on the map for the wrong reasons.
For example, the crime rate has fallen…. because of lack of targets within the city. Meaning there is nothing left to steal. In fact, even the criminals don’t want to leave jail.

You don't even know the 1/2 of it. We were sitting here reading an article about all these homes around here selling for under $1,000. You can buy property lots for $75 a lot, all over town.

MOVEMENT 2009 IS BACK! FIRST 35 ARTISTS ANNOUNCED
There's big news today for international fans of the old electronic head-blast and toxic soft-shoe because Paxahau released a partial list of huge names confirmed for Movement 2009. That list includes Afrika Bambaata, Bassnectar, Carl Craig, Carl Cox, Derrick May, Z-Trip and Francois K. That's right folks, Movement '09 is alive and kickin' for the May 23-25 weekend at Hart Plaza in the ever-gloriously underrated downtown Detroit.
More, everyone's fave electro-eccentric Brit The Prodigy headlines the Movement's official opening bash on May 22 at The Fillmore on Woodward. Local fave Chuck Flask will spin in the State Bar.
The Movement 2009 organizers say more artists will fatten this list in coming weeks.
"We are in the process of finalizing many more artists for the festival," says Jason Huvaere, head of Paxahau, which is, you'll note, the Motor City's standard-barer when it comes electronic/dance event organizing. "Festival-goers can expect to hear more announcements about the lineup over the next several weeks."
Huvaere continues: "Our team spends a lot of time selecting artist and DJs that will appeal to electronic music enthusiasts. This year there will be a major Detroit presence at the festival as well as some performers that rarely set foot on stage in the United States."
We here at MT will keep your head crammed with up-to-the-moment Movement schedule updates, artist info, music, rumors and other tinnitus-inducing ephemera.
What's more, weekend passes to the event can be had on the cheap today through March 23 for only $35! The weekend passes are good Saturday-Monday, May 23 - 25. After March 23 weekend passes can be had for at $40. Said passes can be purchased at paxahau.com.
Here's an list of 35 performers announced today:
