    Default Courtney Barnett Club

My internal monolog is saturated analog, it's scratched and drifting, I've become attached to the idea it's all a shifting dream, bittersweet philosophy!

The first EPs/album whatever did very little for me but the singles from the new one really caught me. And now this new album is aces and going back I'm enjoying the earlier stuff more.

re-releasing two EPs on one disc does not make it an album.

    Music history nerd moment:

Actually, the term album originally referred to collections of either EPs or singles released in a photo-album-like book, basically collecting all the recent work of a popular artist. The idea of a self-contained album of new songs released at the same time didn't really cohere until In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning by Frank Sinatra, and the release we all think of a Wee Small Hours now is actually a traditional album, a mix of the EP-length original release with accompanying singles and tracks recorded around the same time. The term doesn't refer to that anymore, but albums historically were just re-releases of EPs.

"Depreston" is absolutely devastating and may very well be the best song I've heard this year. Also, I'm usually not one to spend much time with lyrics (I know, I know...), but her delivery, the clarity of the vocals themselves, as well as the quotable & poingant nature of her lyrics has really grabbed me.

"I'm not suicidal, just idling insignificantly"

The most affected chorus of "I'm thinking of you tooooooooo"

"A possum Jackson Pollock is painted in the tar"

"Sell me all your golden rules and I'll see/If that's the kind of person that I wanna be/If I'm not happy I'll be glad I kept receipts"

"We either think that we're invincible or that we are invisible/When realistically we're somewhere in between/We all think that we're nobody but everybody is somebody else's somebody"

Agreed, and if her Philly show doesn't sell out soon, I'm going to grab a ticket and just work on no sleep the next day. Damn Monday night shows. Saw her the last time she was in Philly and it was a blast.

She is opening for Belle and Sebastian in Kansas City in a few months. Really looking forward to that show.
We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.
