Is is it just me, or are people trying too hard to push this on us?
dubstep belongs nowhere near the sahara. maybe in the parking lot.
"Push this on us"? You do realize that Dubstep is probably one of the most interesting and forward-thinking genres around right now, right? And it's only getting more popular worldwide. The fact that you see Dubstep producers touted around here so often these days is testament to that.
Also, crazzz, why shouldn't it be in the Sahara? Do you not think it's suitable "dance" music or something? Is it not Ed Banger-y enough for you?
Isn't Drop the Lime considered Dubstep?
Happy to hear that The Bug is confirmed. Given all the hype this year I'm not really surprised that he's Coachella's first Dubstep pick.
i'm down for The Bug... but i'd really like some more DnB, and IDM...
...i'd also like some hardcore techno, but i guess the sahara is too pussy for that...
nobody here hates dubstep, but don't create another thread about it.
the genre has been overhyped. that's why there are tons of dubstep djs out there now playing crap. and well, 'scenesters' buy that crap. but yeah, there are some good artists out there too and i hope they remain once this hype wears off. 2 hrs dubstep sets won't work in the sahara though. i'd like to see it in the dome, but that's me. it's good to see it's been merging with other (sub)genres though.
Has anyone in this thread besides myself actually seen a good dubstep DJ perform?
what do you mean by good? hyperdub-type-of-label djs? there are some local parties around here, and some of them have been pretty decent. from the known ones i've seen bassnectar playing some dubstep, hatcha, caspa and i think that's about it.

By good I mean good. Bassnectar is good... saw Hatcha in Denver a while back, super killer... I'd imagine Caspa lays it down as well.
It would be cool if some of these promoters would take an interest in some of the more interesting, diverse cats making tunes right now, like Starkey or Martyn
Anyway, I don't think it's really correct to level all those complaints at Dubstep specifically, orbit. Yes, they're all problems that the scene faces, but once again, what genre hasn't been massively overhyped and overplayed at one point? Or have a shit ton of terrible producers compared to good ones? Or tons of scenesters buying into it?
Also, two hours with the right DJ could be good. I'd never expect a packed tent, but I think a Dubstep set in the middle of the day before all the big names go on sounds like fun.
I don't care if anyone else likes it, I just want to hear some bass in that tent...
Aren't the Bug and Plasticman dubstep? I like them...
Plus the Bug already has Coachella listed on their myspace page..
