    Default Coachella VS. Christmas

    Coachella or Christmas.

Having been to 5 Coachellas, I say it wins in a landslide.

Coachella is one of the few times of the year that I really look forward to.

Christmas is a joke. Its too commercialized and its too fake.
And would someone please show me some concrete proof, some actual facts that Jesus was born on December 25th. I really wish there was some proof.
Until then, I feel that I've been lied to. I can't stand Christmas anymore.
When I was a kid and didn't know any better, Christmas was all good. But growing up/old with the wrong group of people has ruined Christmas for me. The plaintiff fucking killed Christmas for me.
When you are expected to buy crap for people who you would normally not have anything to do with, fuck that!
The last time I did the Christmas thing was the last time that I remotely felt like I was a dad.
But now my daughter is grown up, moved out and could really give a rats ass about me unless she needs something.
Sad but true. This time of year depresses me so much that I could care less about the hollowdays.
And yeah, I spelled it that way on purpose.

I feel the same way, I am not even buying gifts this year, my sister, brother and I have decided not to exchange and my kids don't deserve anything after the year we have had. Plus my daughter just wants money to buy her b/f a gift so I told her if she cleaned the entire house and washed the baseboards and shit I would give her money for a gift but she had to know that meant she wasn't getting anything from me.

I love Christmas. I love hanging out with my family and friends. I agree that alot of people in this world make it WAY too commercialized, but when you just use it as a reason to hang out with people you love, then it is excellent.

    Coachella still wins though

just wait. in a few years there will be sponsored lineup leaks, where gv announce one band at a time through a sponsored advertisement. "Portishead, brought to you by Marlboro. Tune in tomorrow for the next band announcement..."

oh and just wait for the coachella greeting card phenomenon that will occur anually between the lineup announcement and the festival. shit's gonna be so intense it will slow mail down.

one year they will introduce a photographer photographing you and your friends as you enter the festival. when you look at the photo you'll see yourself on the main stage holding bottles of coca cola.

and there will be a virgin tent where you can get artists to sign copies of their cds but only if you buy a copy from the virgin tent that day.

    oh wait...

There have been 1998 years so far with Christmas but no Coachella. Horrible! I say eliminate Christmas altogether, and start numbering the years after Coachellas.

in that case we better start petitioning for it to be a public holiday as well.

I abstain from voting on this matter. I love my family, so Christmas is always awesome, no matter the financial situation at the time. We've always made it work, and it's always wonderful. I could care less about the religious aspect or the over commercialization of it. There is still something I love about the spirit of Christmas, seeing my daughter and little nephews filled with joy, that absolutely never gets old...
Coachella on the other hand is my time to run around the polo fields, ingesting whatever I may feel like at the time, being crazy as I can and watching a ton of amazing bands in an almost dreamlike setting.
They both are very special to me in vastly different ways.

You are a very lucky person.

It's the little things in life.
The things that we most often take for granted.
We seldom miss these things until they are taken away.
As I sit here alone on my day off, I think about things like Christmas. I try to remember what Christmas felt like.

    I miss talking to TomAz.

We all do. I live in the same city as him (unless he relocated) and rumor has it that at 3:15am if you listen closely and its really really quiet you can hear him telling you to go fuck yourself.

No,no, not a public holiday! Only for members, like on this message board! Trying to get to Coachella on a public holiday would be like trying to get signed in the day the lineup is announced here!

Oh, don't be sad Suffacated. We'll sit together Xmas day with our scarves, beanies, and mittens on with an 8-ball of white powder in front of us as we watch the Coachella video from beginning to end! XO

Perhaps it is just YOUR Christmas that is fake. Ever think of that? There are millions of people that don't overspend, spend foolishly, or even spend at all. They take the time to be with their families and celebrate love and life. Sorry that your experience is different. It also widely recognized (even by Christians) that Jesus the (*ahem, false) prophet was born much closer to April. Also, this poll is culturally insensitve...

    No shit!
I was describing how I see, feel and think about Christmas.

There are millions of people that don't overspend, spend foolishly, or even spend at all.
I'm sure that there's more than that.
Look at the unemployment rate today. Look at the stock market.
Ya think that one might have something to do with the other?

They take the time to be with their families and celebrate love and life.
Nothing wrong with that. I try to get together with what family I have when ever I can. I just dont use Christmas or Thanksgiving as an excuse to do something that (in a perfect world) should be done each and every day.

Sorry that your experience is different
No need for you to go there.
My crappy outlook on Christmas is more of my fault than those who were actually the major players in the slaughter of my Christmas spirit. You see, I've more or less forgiven (almost) all of them. I'll probably never forgive myself. I should have done things much differently.....but I didnt. It's sometimes hard living and dealing with that..... especially during this time of the year.

It also widely recognized (even by Christians) that Jesus the (*ahem, false) prophet
What could be more culturally insensitive that ^?
