When your thing gets wild
Holy shit, that Labyrinth tattoo is awesome.
But more importantly, I finally decided the image I want to get tattooed! It's only taken me about 10 years of wanting one and trying to decide what would be appropriate to carry around on my skin for the rest of my life.
Now I just need to find a good tattoo artist.
It's a sort of old-timey imaging contraption that was used primarily from the 16th through 18th centuries. It's something that I wrote about in my dissertation as an art history graduate student, so I like it because it has a bit of a personal history for me. But I also like it because it's one of the earliest forms of a camera, so it is a nice homage to my current photography work. And, the way the camera obscura works, light from the outside world is transposed through a pinhole onto a backboard at the rear end of the device, and through this process the image becomes flipped upside down, so I like that it's a sort of reminder that our own vision of the world is only one perception, and not the absolute truth of the way things are.
