and for those who enjoy Last Fm radio recommendations you can use this website, type in your username or an artist and it will generate a playlist, and all you have to do is drag and drop it into your Spotify client

Thanks Paul! I never remember to actually listen to my recommendations, so that's pretty cool.

.... the ads.... for a second I was thought it was something I'd queued and was really confused.

I don't see how there is any comparison between the two. They're not really the same type of service at all.

I like the idea of turntable, but HATE the forced link to twitter or facebook, and ultimately... it's only as good as the DJs that are currently in the room. If you're going to use it like internet radio, IMO there are better options.

I won't hijack this thread with my opinions on turntable but turntable does more than just listening to music. I'll post the rest in the turntable.fm thread.

kreutz, relax. It was just a statement, not meant to be literal.

Yes, listening to music with others in a room is very attention whorish. Who would ever want to listen to music with their friends and play music for eachother that they may not have heard before?

    Gross.

I tried turntable.fm once a week or two ago and I liked it, but I'd rather pick the music I want to listen to myself. I was hesitant about spotify and it needs a few changes (i.e., a bigger catalog to choose from. Like I said, I couldn't even find "The Chronic" on there), but at least I get to pick what I want to listen to. I don't need to chat with people while streaming music.

Do people really not get how turntable.fm is for fucking LOSERs?! Christ, do the math.

I have much more respect for a person who tells me they just spent the evening seeking out Mongolian midget porn than a person who says they spent the night hanging out in some 16yo twat's turntable.fm room.

    Deadly.

The image I have of people that spend their days/nights on turntable.fm is entirely unflattering. There is just so much LOSER in that whole thing (and mark my words, once the attentionwhores find the next thing, that site will die like pets.com).

    Whatever...who gives a fuck.

I find the idea of turntable.fm pretty unappealing. I don't like the idea of sitting around listening to shitty music that other people picked. If I'm going to listen to shit music, I'd rather it be self-induced.

I somewhat agree with your sentiment. Have you also considered that you're just a grumpy old fuck and your mental image might not be all that accurate?

Geezr, you're passionate. Why did you spend so much time in a 16 year olds room? Sounds like you were asking for trouble. I spend most of my time in the woxy room. Woxy is a now defunct radio station. The people in that room tend to play music that is similar to the stations format which is rather eclectic/indie. It was the first place I started to hear newer music from back in 2005 or so when I started going to Coachella. It's good fun.

Oh, and Tommy...you calling me a grumpy old fuck is pretty rich. You've got to be one of the single most droll, unentertaining humans I've ever had the misfortune of coming across in my long, prehistoric life.

Some of my friends who don't put much effort into finding new music are LOVING turntable and actually finding/listening to good bands because of it. They're not logging on to give "points" to people and get validation; they're just signing on at work and letting it play in the background.

*snort* The friends I'm mentioning totally used to work at pets.com... so there you have it!

You were probably too young to know what it was, and wouldn't have cared to notice it anyway. It has nothing to do with the subject at hand, Geezr is just being a grumpy old fart...
