I'm not sure how I feel about these new songs. I liked Today's Supernatural more every time I heard it, but now that I've heard Applesauce it sounds a bit too samey...I dunno, they both just sound kind of hollow. I'm sure higher resolution rips will reveal a lot more in each of them, but at the moment I'm not too blown away.

I'm considering going to their HOB show in Vegas, but I really only like their "My Girls" song and I'm not sure if it'll be worth it.

You'd have to remain pretty open-minded about it to enjoy it if that's the only song of theirs you really enjoy. They get weird live.

I think the era of "My Girls" is over. Haven't they been saying that this new album might turn off a lot of people who got into them with that song?

Wait, since when do you care about "high resolution rips"...haha! Have you turned to the "dark" side now.

I can understand why you feel this way about "Applesauce", but I wonder if it would be better to listen to this album as a whole. I feel like this album really beckons that sort of attention. But, there's a lot more going on in this song that will definitely be revealed under proper listening conditions....and live for sure!

    It's almost here!

Finishing transcribing my interview with them over the next couple of days. Thanks to some of you (bmack in particular) I went in with a lot more to work with than I anticipated, which was helpful as it lasted longer than I'd been told it would.

I'm sure I've said this here before, but Animal Collective in 2011 was one of my best concert experiences ever. During their set, I easily took to the new songs like I'd known them for years, even though it was my first time hearing them. I enjoyed every moment of the show and was absolutely blown away, overwhelmed, and exhausted by the end of their set.
So, needless to say, I've REALLY been looking forward to this album. And I love what I've heard so far.

    very, very excited.

I can group "Applesauce" if anyone is interested in hearing it.

Agreed. That 2011 set was something special, and I've always loved them live, but they can be pretty weird, especially for people accustomed to Merriweather only.

Like all of their albums, way too much to absorb on one listen, so not much to say now that it's over. I do think that this won't alienate the people that got into them with MPP as much as some have said, there are a lot of similar elements in some of the songs.

First impression is two thumbs up, without a doubt.

I think "Wide-Eyed" ended up turning out best (from the jams they showcased last year). I can't wait to get the vinyl of this!

Happy to finally get to listen to the album. I liked it upon first listen.
But I will say, out of the 4 new songs that weren't played live (Moonjock, Applesauce, Pulleys, Amanita) Applesauce is the only one I've really enjoyed so far. I'm sure the others will grow on me eventually.

Reminds me of early Gary Numan I like it. "Father Time" is the favorite after a couple listens.

Just finished my second listen. Was so tired and stoned last night though, feels like I just listened for the first time. Definitely loving it, but I didn't expect any less. The stretch from Wide Eyed to Monkey Riches is so good.

They played 14 songs last year on tour, right? Since 4 of these are new, there should be at least 5 unreleased song still.

Also, anybody need a ticket for Seattle? Not taking that trip anymore since I'm able to go to the Hollywood Bowl show now that I'm not going to ATP.

Is that the one with Deakin on vocals? I'm guessing that was him on one of the songs, it didn't sound like Dave or Noah.

Also, during the New Town Burnout video, I noticed one of my dad's company's trailers on the 5 near Bakersfield! There was a slowed-down shot I'm trying to find, because I think I may have even been towing it.

Finally listened to the new album. I really like it. I don't really see how this would alienate fans of MPP though. If anything this album feels like it would be a good one to bridge the gap between SJ and MPP. Feels like they are combining the best parts of their last few records. I can't wait to see what they'll do with this stuff if they play it on this tour.

So after a second listen, I really like this album. So far, Today's Supernatural, Applesauce, and New Town Burnout are my favs. I especially like the carnival-type sounds made towards the end of NTB.
