I don't think they'll do it again. Wasn't it billed as one time only? And took him a decade to put together?

I got the courage/ was dumb enough/buzz enough to talk to Bill Fold yesterday. The short answer is they are looking into it. One of the rules to be consider an artist to play this showcase/ show is that they have to have constantly played throughout their career. So it's not a reunion also which I thought was super cool that Bill pointed out is this is not a festival and nowhere do they say it is a festival. So no Talking Heads, no Police .

these are probably more likely candidates:

    - Fleetwood Mac
    - Heart
    - Steely Dan
    - Aerosmith
    - Clapton?
    - Buddy Guy?

Well if they tried to land Led Zeppelin this year then this rule kinda goes out the window.

Every artist on this year's Desert Trip lineup would be billed a headliner at any other festival they might play. Acts like Heart, John Fogerty, Steely Dan (I know they mentioned something about there being talk in their camp), and Buddy Guy are great, but haven't headlined the festivals they've played. I suppose they could be booked, but it would mean a change in the format, like maybe more bands per day.

Nope - that would be a massive let down. Its a tough bill follow, and the best candidates are all pan bread - Bowie, Prince, Eagles, Jacko, Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, James Brown, Lou Reed, BB King
I'll agree on Clapton but they'd need the likes of
    - stevie wonder
    - the beach boys
    - AC/DC (been done)
    - Elton John ()
    - Van Morrison

still a let down compared to this years line up. CurseofMilhaven's line up is better

Not to rain on the prediction parade, but PT has said Desert Trip would be a one-off event. I guess getbetter mentioned this above, but that interview is fairly definitive.:

Your other new event, Desert Trip, has the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Roger Waters and the Who. Is that what you have to do to make a music festival stand out in 2016?

No. That is a unique, one-off thing. It’s not really a festival — it’s a concert, two bands a day. I just thought those six bands should play together. It’s never been done. It turned out to be the highest-grossing show by far. It beat No. 2, which is Coachella, by far. The gross is approximately $160 million for the two weekends.
On the flip side, the money may make it a two-off event.

Has Dylan headlined a festival since the 70's?

All six of the 2016 DT acts took 7-10 years off from touring at various points in their career. Some twice.

Check out the ACL 2007(I think capped at 55,000) compared to Coachella 2017(100,000 onsite per day.

Dylan did Newport 2002 and a Bumbershoot several years ago. Maybe top line at some jam band stuff.

heard Tom Petty and Foo Fighters out of horses mouth from a supposed insider yesterday for either a #lateadd or for this. Yesterday was so full of rock n roll. Even got obnoxiously drunk.

Anyone got intel on potential dates? Some Palm Springs hotels have already jacked up rates for the same weekends it was last year, but Tom Petty's "west coast leg" starting in August makes me think it'll be earlier...

Then again, I guess this is right in his backyard.
