What's with all this latent malcontent, Vigo? Have you been reading Friedan?

It's Hanna and Corinna to blame that this 31 year old man has assumed the identity of a leftover dyke form the 90's.

Of course not. It'd be a real shame if every beautiful and unique snowflake didn't find their voice and share their singular utopian vision with the rest of the horde.

Not with that attitude you won't. Try to tamp down some of your inner angst and then force it back out your throat as a sort of demure, marriageable foie gras extrusion. We'll land you a good'un.

Im gana go for a walk. I'm not sure but I'm pretty darn sure that what you said doesn't mean anything substantial and is designed only to confuse me even further probably only for your own sadistic amusement and hatred of heterosexual carpathians as you are both a racist and sexist who is out of control with dangerous ideas that should be considered by many experts in the international scene.

I went to an event last night where this tape, "Daylight" by Pure Ground was playing. Really cool industrial/goth stuff that reminded me heavily of Joy Division. They're playing a show here in LA on the 12th and I'll probably go.

50 Albums Everyone Needs to Own (1963-2013, one a year), according to Flavorwire.

Lists like that are usually awful, but the author really nails it for the most part. Makes me want to go back and either visit or revisit a lot of those albums.
    5/15 - Muse - Mayan

    5/26 - Refused - Roxy

What is hip trumped what was actually best on this list.

Eh, I'd take Ege over Exile any day of the week. That's kind of a lazy criticism.

If I point out the other thirty or so times he picks a hip album over the consensus year best, would it still be lazy?

I'm not going to begrudge anyone their own taste, but the ostensible point of this exercise is to build a representative record collection, right?

I don't think that's the point at all. He's just saying here are 50 albums of merit. He's right about 80% of the time give or take. I do wonder what happened to his testicles in the mid 80s though.

I did notice something: after Radiohead and the internet, the whole idea of "consensus" albums stops making sense. Part of this may be that we don't have historical distance yet. I suspect most of it may simply be that tastes have fractured so much, and because the idea of the album itself increasingly means less and less on a wider cultural scale.

I'm jumping in on this. I'm pretty much just making my list via Wikipedia's pages of album releases for each year, finding what I think is among the best albums from each year, and one that I couldn't picture not listening to ever again. If possible I'm avoiding the big names too, because hey, everyone knows you should own Dylan and the Beatles.

Looking on Wikipedia this was a pretty disappointing year for music. But, Black Flag - Nervous Breakdown EP obviously.

I would choose Who Are You, which is one of my favorite albums of all time, but it was hardly a disappointing year for music, yeesh

This is just some random dude's top 50 of the year. Look at what came out that year in this tiny sliver:

    5/15-17/15 - Psycho CA @ Observatory // 5/22/15 - Laura Jane Grace @ Hollywood Forever Cemetary // 5/27/15 - Neutral Milk Hotel @ Warner Grand Theater
    6/3/15 - Sufjan Stevens @ Dorothy Chandler // 7/15/15 - Shellac @ Regent // 7/31/15 - Melt Banana w/Torche @ Roxy

Okay, i take that back! A lot of those weren't listed. Missing Chairs, The Modern Dance, Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!, More Songs About Buildings and Food all great albums. And I just can't get into Elvis Costello for some reason (sorry Tom) so that's that. I still pick Nervous Breakdown though.
