That is not even close to being the worse Dune song. Okay no HHC fans here, I see...

The closest I ever got to appreciating happy hardcore at all was when Lords of Acid occasionally dabbled in it, like "super sexy space aliens." Otherwise, the genre is kind of a crime against humanity

No, man, genocide is a crime against humanity. HHC is just something that... you can avoid and pretend like it doesn't exist.

I actually still occasionally listen to it while I'm doing chores.

And now I'm off to listen to deep sexy space....

Edit: anyone who has seen me dance can tell I used to like HHC. I never quite lost that style of dancing. It's obnoxious and awful.

    hahahahaha point taken.

Also, Shanx uncovered the "original" version of "always hardcore." I guess Scooter is just a cover band.

We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.

New Dum Dum Girls yesterday. On one hand -- as Pitchfork picked up on here -- it's a fairly obvious stab at "Fade Into You," on the other hand, I can forgive this simply because Dee Dee crushes the vocal in a way that actually deserves comparisons to Hope Sandoval.

It's weird to admit this, but I finally listened to Soul Discharge for the first time recently. While I still think I like Pop Tatari more at this point, I don't think there are finer examples of what rock and roll can be than these two albums.

I have a really hard time cultivating anything musically from the early Boredoms stuff. It's just so over the top and ridiculous.

Like that one song on Onanie Bomb where there's just burping for like 3 minutes...what exactly is one supposed to gain from that?

Pop Tatari's definitely my preferred one of the two. Soul Discharge is darker or something, less accessible. Odd word to use with those albums though.

Soul Discharge is pure insanity. Pop Tatari almost sounds like them trying to be a funk band that's got serious ADD and is hooked on speed. I love those albums.

I had never heard Boredoms before when I listened to Pop Tatari for the first time driving over the Rocky Mountains a few years ago. It sounded like someone locked up a group of Japanese cannibals in a room for a week and gave them instruments and lots of drugs.

It will probably sound a lot more in sync after all the noise music you've listened to since then. You should definitely add that to the list of things to listen to.

Oh, and the song with the belching is disgusting and hard to listen to. It's meant to be revolting.

It's close. "The Trilogy" offers some competition.

Those early Boredoms album requires a bit of patience (or zero patience at all). The songs don't really last that long, kind of like hardcore punk, and they switch up tactics so quickly it's easy to get lost. But they're also some of the purest manifestions of the rock & roll id. If you listen enough times, it becomes less like noise soup and you recognize different melodies and effect and shit. Also, they're just pure fun through and through. Listen to Soul Discharge once or twice a day for a week (it's only a half hour) and report back.

Has anyone else seen this Get Yourself Tested commercial featuring No Age playing "Everybody's Down"?

    No Age

    Los Angeles, CA

“We chose to participate in the campaign because we think relationships with friends, lovers and everyone else should be honest and responsible.”

Dean Spunt and Randy Randall make up the Los Angeles based band No Age. No Age issued a slew of singles on a variety of indie labels in 2007, resulting in the tellingly cohesive compendium, Weirdo Rippers on Fat Cat Records later that year. That widely heralded release inspired such mainstream press as The New Yorker and the L.A. Times to feature the band’s ties to the underground scene surrounding the Los Angeles all-ages club The Smell. They have released two full length records on Sub Pop Records, the Grammy-nominated Nouns in 2008 and Everything In Between in 2010.

I feel like Dean Spunt is doing exactly what he should be doing with his given name. The only other options would have been a sleazy people-pleasing British executive or maybe a professional pharmaceutical guinea pig with an alarming physical abnormality.

Exactly. The joy they have while playing just oozes through those entire albums. It really is infectious when you've listened enough times and gotten over the batshit craziness.

Assuming you're talking about Spiritualized, yes, i agree with you. Seeing them do an extended (about 25 minutes i think) version at the Avalon several years ago is one of the greatest things I've ever witnessed.

I randomly met No Age's Dean Spunt's brother, who designs and screenprints most of No Age's shirts, at the ColLAboration beer garden on the Sunset Strip on Saturday after noticing his awesome No Age shirt and asking him if he was the MacArthur park show. Very nice guy! he said he was up until 3am in the shop making shirts the night before and then at the last second was coerced into manning the merch booth for the show.
