Coachella Pick'em is SERIOUS BUSINESS.
As happy as I was to see the 49ers lose that game, I agree with you Sasha, that was a bullshit call. SF got screwed.
Someone needs to edit that GIF to show Drew's neck extending above the top left of the image like a giraffe.
“There were two officials that came in. One was the umpire [Garth DeFelice] and the other one was our side judge [Greg Meyer] and there was a discussion at that point as to the, in essence, the catchability of the ball due to its location.
“So it was determined at that point in time that when the primary contact occurred on the tight end that the ball, in essence, was coming in underthrown and in essence it was immediate at that point intercepted at the front end of the end zone. So there was a determination that, in essence, uncatchability, that the ball was intercepted at or about the same time the primary contact against the receiver occurred.”
Yeah, I get all the Patriots hate here and amid the national sports press. They've been the most dominant NFL franchise for almost a decade and a half. Pretty Boy Tom Brady and his super model wife. Smug Belichick. Irritant fans. I get it.
But last night's abortion of a (reverse) call in the end zone as the Pats were on the verge of (another) miraculous comeback has me believing the the NFL itself has picked up a pitchfork and and is now leading the hate crusade.
Never thought I'd see anything as astonishingly horrible as the Golden Tate "winning" TD catch from last years scab-reffed MNF game in Seattle.
But there you go.
i think it was borderline. i can understand the logic behind it.
but even if you think it's a bad call it's nowhere near the atrocity that was the golden tate fraud last year. that was the worst call in the history of the nfl.
The logic behind it? I'll tell you the logic behind it. The ball was not "catchable" because Gronkowski was unable to make his cut to the predetermined spot that was drawn up in the playbook and run ad nauseum on the practice field because he was busy being date-raped by Luke Kuechly in front of a national audience.
If you think it was "borderline," you need to have your football-watching card revoked, Tom.
Stevie Wonder saw pass interference on that play.
No, the ball was uncatchable because Brady underthrew it.
Watch it again, Tom.
The ball was thrown, with some zip on it, to the spot were Gronk would have been had he not been re-routed by the bear-hug. He would have made a play on the ball and maybe it get's intercepted anyway. But you cannot say that Kuechly did not commit blatant pass interference. End of discussion.
Santasutt I agree like most people that it was a bad call and should have been a penalty, but please don't act like it was the worst call in the history of the NFL because it wasn't. Hell it's arguably not even the most controversial call of the weekend to be honest.
Also please stop referring to it in general as a miraculous comeback. Brady has only made a career of winning games in the final 2 minutes. It really isn't miraculous as much as it is expected now. Also against a very good Carolina D with limited space not even a guarantee the Patriots score.
