Didn't know he was a Jack White fan.
..and then the crowd start singing Seven Nation Army.
is that what they were doing? thought it sounded like it.
Any predictions for tomorrow? It's hard to bet against Spain, but Italy have looked extremely solid throughout the entire tournament. I wonder if Prandelli will stick with the diamond midfield shape he's used in the last few games, or if they will go back to the three-man defense they used against Spain in the opening group game.
EDIT - it looks like Laurent Blanc has stepped down as France manager, a few days after Bert van Marwijk did the same with Holland.
so half of Italy is going to go on suicide watch, right?
Italy had no chance of winning against this Spain team
they got OWNED!
Italy dropped like flies. Did they train for 24 hours straight or something?
I was wondering about that, seeing that they were playing with 10 men. I couldn't hear the TV - had they used up all of their subs by that point?
Spain looked so damn good leading up to their first two goals when they were really going for it. I appreciate how good they are but I really hope someone just beats them in 2014.
I was at the Earthquakes/Galaxy game yesterday, holy shit what a great first MLS experience. That game really had everything, even a Beckham free kick and meltdown. Watched it when I got home and the cameras didn't catch Becks flipping the bird to the SJ player as he was getting booed off the field. Probably going to start going to more games, San Jose has a pretty damn cool team and the section of hardcore fans were really awesome all game.
the mascot in this cracks me up
I watched the Galaxy v Earthquakes game on TV, but unfortunately my DVR stopped recording right as this little scuffle was starting. The energy/atmosphere looked great, though; try and grab a seat in the fan section next time!
Also, congrats to Gobi FC for winning our Euro 2012 Fantasy League in commanding fashion.
Yeah, congrats. You owned, for sure.
What a performance from Spain. Italy really didn't play all that poorly. They just ran into a team that was not going to get beat, by anyone. That pass from Xavi to Jordi Alba was pure brilliance. I kept rewinding it over and over...looked like something from FIFA 12, not real life.
Jordi Alba was a boss throughout the entire tournament, both as a fantasy point machine (I think he was the highest scoring player) and IRL. Barca just paid something like 14 million Euros for him, and that is a bargain considering how well he played and that he's only 23.
Pirlo proved he is still in top form throughout the tournament. I can't see him being left out of the WC squad.
I hope he can make it to the next WC; Italian players seem to have longer careers than most, and even though he'll be 35 I can still see him being in the squad. Too bad he doesn't have that world-renowned Milan medical lab working on him anymore!
When first you don't succeed...
AVB is the new Spurs Manager.
Well fuck; I just hope he doesn't stay in the PL.
This is an update for the fans about my current situation. I have kept quiet all this time out of respect and loyalty for the club and as agreed with Mr. Gazidis and Mr. Wenger, but since there is so much speculation in the media, I think it is fair for you guys to know what’s really going on at the moment.
As announced earlier this year I had a meeting with the Boss and Mr. Gazidis after the season. This was a meeting about the club’s future strategy and their policy. Financial terms or a contract have not been discussed, since that is not my priority at all.
I personally have had a great season but my goal has been to win trophies with the team and to bring the club back to its glory days. Out of my huge respect for Mr. Wenger, the players and the fans I don’t want to go into any details, but unfortunately in this meeting it has again become clear to me that we in many aspects disagree on the way Arsenal FC should move forward.
I’ve thought long and hard about it, but I have decided not to extend my contract. You guys, the fans, have of course the right to disagree with my view and decision and I will always respect your opinions.
I love the club and the fans, no matter what happens. I have grown up and became a man during my time with Arsenal FC. Everybody at the club and the fans have always supported me over the years and I have always given my all (and more) on and off the pitch. I am very proud of being part of this fantastic club for the last 8 years. As soon as Mr. Gazidis is back from his 2-week holiday in America further meetings will follow and I will update you if and when there are more developments.
Robin van Persie
It is now a tradition at Arsenal to have a great year and then leave to a club with more money (Barca, City).
Shitty for Arsenal. I guess they're really putting a lot of faith in Giroud this season.
Mistake by RVP. He is in the perfect situation at Arsenal.
On another note, this would make me very happy:
Debuchy to Newcastle?
The biggest problem in this whole ordeal is for the club itself - I can't imagine we'll get that big of a transfer fee considering he only has a year left on his contract, and now (if you believe the papers, that is) his decision has left Theo wondering if his future lies elsewhere as well as he too only has a year left on his contract. We've essentially become a stepping-stone club over the past four or five seasons, one unable to hang on to its best players as they reach their peak years, and until we can get rid of this policy while also attracting/buying top-quality talent the club isn't going to move forward. Podolski and Giroud are good signings and will give us better attacking options, but we need to also go buy four or five more players (another striker now that RvP is off, creative and holding mids, and one or two defensive reinforcements) before we can be taken seriously as title contenders.
Sad days for Gunner fans, but this is the time for us to rally behind the club rather than push it away.
Found this browsing r/soccer today, an hour-and-a-half long documentary centering on the Barca board during the 03/04 season (the one when Laporta/Rosell took charge of the club):
