So dumb to release lists like this when there are still like 6 weeks of releases left to go. There are always great surprises at the end of the year too.

I agree it's too early to be releasing year-end lists, although I would imagine a place like Rough Trade has received an advanced copy of whatever is left to come out this year.

The last two years saw surprise releases by Beyonce and D'Angelo in December which would have made it on many of the year end lists. I doubt Rough Trade got copies of those albums in advance.

That's a fair point, but one "surprise December release" is more the exception rather than the rule no?

Good to see the as yet unreleased Adele album making the Rough Trade end of year chart.

Sure, but its becoming a trend since its happened two years in a row. A very short trend so we will see what happens this year.

I didn't have the time to get to know the D'Angelo record until this year, where I would definitely put it in my top ten for 2015. Unfortunately it came out in 2014.

Will all the outlets that always publish their lists early put D'Angelo's album on their 2015 lists?

I'm assuming you all know that the Rough Trade end of year chart is paid for? (As are their Albums of the Month).

Like always, they have a killer list with TONS of stuff I'm not familiar with. Of the top 5, I only haven't heard the Lucifer record, and the others are highly deserved. A bit surprised not to see the new Torche and Windhand releases, shocked to see the new Refused, and pleasantly surprised they included the new ones by Failure, Iron Maiden and Author and Punisher.

Any 2015 metal list missing Abyssal's Antikatastaseis serrrriously fucked up, but I'm happy to see Leviathan and Cult Leader in there.

Is that Tribulation album any good? I saw them open for Deafheaven last night and it was pretty enjoyable.

I'm going to have to really give that Tribulation album a try. I thought they were laughable at best when opening for Deafheaven. I've never been a big fan of the "death 'n roll" pseudo-subgenre, and all of the members looked like a cross between Steel Panther and Dimmu Borgir.

Also, I finally decided to give that new Napalm Death a listen after seeing it on that list, and holy shit. Talk about comeback album of year right there. I haven't really kept up on anything they've put out in the 2000s, but this crushes even some of their earliest and best works. I can't wait to give it a bunch of spins.

This is 100% accurate. It was enjoyable in a campy way, and the music was decent.

Agreed. There are a few on this list I still need to check out, but I at least like where their heads are at. From my personal favorites, they're missing Glaciation, Minsk, Caspian (which is more post-metal, but whatever) and Black Breath, but they hit all my high points otherwise. Very pleased to see Panopticon that high - along with Glaciation, that's my favorite metal record this year.

I'll have to check out Glaciation. I gave that Minsk album so many tries, but it fell into the boring post metal camp for my ears.

But the Tribulation record is definitely one I'd recommend. I've listened to that mofo a ton. Can't comment on appearance or stage presence, but the record is fantastic and very memorable.

Also, just for sheer ridiculousness, the new Christian Mistress absolutely has a spot on my list. It's so stupidly fun.

Do you look at these before you post them? Because that books list is a joke. They have the same book at 12 and 13, the only difference being that 13 is the hardcover edition.

So getting ready to throw Julia into my listening rotation this week, haven't heard yet, but damn, how much better than her first two is this album, she's come out of nowhere to a commanding early lead towards the consensus title (though I still suspect Kendrick will emerge supreme when all the bigger North American rags start publishing there lists).

Have to agree with you on Tame Impala though - shocked by the love for Currents - by far the weakest of their three with songs that while mildly sonically interesting are so completely lacking in any forward-grooving drive - the tunes just all sit there like boring, placid pools - they should really go spend time with a funk or hard rock guru next time out - cause this once interesting band is just getting duller and more milquetoast-y with each release.
