Question crutches / broken knee cap

so i broke my knee cap the other night and ended up having surgery. i'll basically be on crutches for the next 6 weeks which means, disabled for coachella.

has anyone done coachella on crutches before? any advice you can provide would be a great help. is there something you wished you would've brought? any trouble getting pain meds in?

    thanks

There's actually a special area, almost in front of the main stage, for disabled people.

Coachella 2006, I had back surgery a week before Coachella. I was extremely fucked up and had a big gaping hole in my back that I had to pack and unpack gauze in three times a day. It hurt like a son of a bitch! So no to the crutches for me. I bet you can get handicap access though, as someone else stated.

No trouble getting pain meds in for me. I brought a bottle of Loritabs and a bottle of Vicodin. They matched the labels to my ID.

Those Loritabs worked VERY well. I want more this year. Since they have been downgraded, they are much easier to get a prescription for.

My buddy did Coachella 2004 (the scorching death hot one) on crutches the whole time because he had surgery from a Rugby accident. Walking to and from the car and stages for him was tough but he pulled it off. Honestly, if you can get someone to drop you off at the gate, that's one of the biggest obstacles. Other than that, get plenty of viccadin and whatever else you can to numb that pain. Good luck. Also see if you can bring a folding chair or something to sit on to rest. And be ready for your friends to pour water on you and run...that's what we did!!!!

I have a herniated disc in my back and it has been killing me. I just got a steroid shot this morning and I really hope it works for me so I don't end up needing surgery until AFTER Coachella. Still though, it sucks. I can barely move.

One of my friends last year broke his ankle Saturday night in the sahara and ended up missing Rage on Sunday which is basically the whole reason he went.

yaaaa i'm so pissed off. now considering not going anymore since we'd be road trippin from BC and back (5000 km) in a small car- i dont even think it's possible since I can't bend my knee.

this is a huge disappointment since coachella has been the only thing i've thought of since i left last year.

I'm afraid my doctor will not be pleased about me hiking the polo fields for three days next month and may keep my on my crutches longer than he initially told me. However, he said I may be able to start using a cane instead until I'm back to normal.

I don't recall seeing anyone with a cane at Coachella before, definitely peeps on crutches but I'm soooo sick of using mine. Can not-so-busted folks get in with a cane?

My buddy was disabled last year for Coachella - he'd messed his knee up and almost didn't go. He'd transitioned to a cane by the weekend of the show, but still he struggled. I'd advise choosing your sets wisely - just realize that you won't be able to see as many acts as normal and make it a priority to get a good spot for the one's you consider unmissable.

Last year I only went one day due to a similar back problem. I took a lot of Ibuprofen and sat down a lot...
If you really want to feel better, I suggest doing YOGA. It's the only thing that helped me. No steroid shots, no surgery. My back still bothers me from time to time, but at least I can exist relatively pain free. DON'T LET YOUR DOCTOR CUT YOU OPEN UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY CAN'T FUNCTION! I promise you, if you take a gentle yoga class, the stretching and deep breathing will help you immensely. You won't be cured by Coachella, but you may learn strategies to help you relax and get through the pain much easier.
