The process of wear on a line or sail caused by constant rubbing against a hard, usually metallic, surface. Various methods are used to prevent chafing. Chafing of lines that rest on a chock on a boat can be prevented by putting a protecting material (sometimes as simple as a piece of old garden hose) around the line. Chafing of a sail rubbing against a cable can be prevented on large ships by tying baggywrinkle around the cable.
Tie a baggywrinkle around your legs.

WOW, i never saw a post like this coming. but i know COMPLETELY what you're talking about. i'm a coachella virgin but had the same thing happen to me while exploring new york a couple summers ago. DAMN WAS I IN PAIN.
how i prevent it now:
get new boxer-brief underwear that prevents your legs from rubbing together
have some goldbond or babypowder handy
& i guess i'll have to try that cream.
