I felt Edge of Tomorrow was worth the price to see it in IMAX 3D, though I'm sure you won't be at a disadvantage seeing it in regular 3D.

It wasn't shot with IMAX cameras or technology or whatever it's called, so a regular 3D theater is fine.

I wasn't particularly wild about it, but Omar is now up on Netflix Instant and is at least worth a watch.

Holy shit, I can't believe that's Alejandro Inarritu's new movie. It's good to see him tackle a project with some humor. And Michael Keaton.

    Exactly what I was thinking.

After missing it at AFI Fest last year, I finally saw Lukas Moodysson's We are the Best! and it was wonderful.

Yeah I caught it last week at the Nuart and it was fucking awesome. For a movie about teenage girls it had a lovely tone. There was a real innocence to the film and it managed to be honest and funny without any of the saccharine bullshit that usually accompanies these kinds of stories. All three of the girls were great, although I'll admit it took me a few minutes to correctly identify their gender.

I watched Coming To America for the first time in like 10 years or so. I honestly forgot how fucking funny that movie is. Eddie Murphy at his best for sure.

I saw Obvious Child over the weekend, and it was worth seeing. Hopefully I can find some spare time to catch The Rover this upcoming weekend.

Also, going to Arclight at 1pm on a Saturday is the best. No crowds, no rush to get tickets and snacks.

Speaking of which, if anyone wants Wild At Heart on Blu-ray, Twilight Time has released it via their limited run model. They announced this morning that their are less than 400 copies left. It's expensive, but they only press 3000 and they exclusively hold the rights in North America.

I have heard iffy reviews of the WAH blu-ray online, mostly saying the picture quality isn't as optimal as it could be, and the extras are all ports over from the DVD version. Any idea how long they have the rights on that one? I am tempted, though.

Three years, but there is no guarantee that anyone will put it out (or Twilight Time themselves will renew) when the rights lapse. The only reason they were able to get it in the first place is because MGM had no interest in putting it out themselves. There are international releases, but as far as Region A goes this is the only choice we'll have for a while, potentially ever.

I do have it but I haven't gotten around to watching it, so I can't comment on the PQ. Twilight Times' extras are always pretty minimal/lame unless you're into isolated scores.

This seems to be the sad state of affairs with a lot of film studios being cheap with their catalogs and remastering for blu-ray, although MGM is starting to be come more notorious for doing so (see the sad case of "The Alamo," whose original film elements are rapidly degrading and MGM will not pick up the bill for it or even let others do so). We can only hope that smaller labels like Criterion, Twilight Time, Keno, and others can pick up the slack and get the rights to the films that are being neglected by their owners.

Granted, I know that it's not cheap by any means, but letting original elements degrade? Horrific.

It's just kind of the way it's going to be now. Home video is becoming an extremely niche market. Other than the truly Triple A stuff, catalog titles just aren't worth the major studios time and money anymore. Twilight Time, Criterion, Shout/Scream Factory, Keno, Olive, Flicker Alley, etc are all great companies to different degrees, but they certainly aren't cheap.

I'm not saying it was terrible, but it was a real downer throughout (surprise) and disturbing at some points.
I guess I'm too sheltered, or something.

Yes, There is good acting in it, but it's a bit too much of a "scared straight" kind of a movie for me. There isn't much in actual story going on. It's nice getting to see Danny Trejo get to try some real acting in it though.

    Yeah, Trejo's character was great.

And then Netflix suggested "Machete Kills"... which was amazing. LOLing the whole time.

Trejo is awesome, and also a pretty nice guy, although I wish he was in more stuff like Sherrybaby, instead of Machete 2: Electric Boogaloo or what ever.

I think I need to watch Wicker Man again. I remember thinking that most of the scenes were more strange than frightening. Maybe that is what is so unnerving? Idk it was good, but I felt like it lacked in the horror department. It never captures that great mix of obscure and horrific the way that other films like The Shining and Rosemary's Baby do.

My wife really loves The Celebration but I haven't seen it yet. I looked that up to make sure it was the same film I was thinking of and I don't think I realized he directed The Hunt with Mads Mikkelsen. It is on Netflix but I have been putting it off, guess I should not give it a go, too.
    I don't think I'm hosting a 2016 collaborative playlist.

Los Angeles (CNN) -- Hollywood will produce at least two versions of the controversial story of U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl.

Fox Searchlight Pictures confirmed Wednesday that it will make a movie based on the 2012 Rolling Stone article "America's Last Prisoner of War."

The announcement came a day after the Oscar-winning team of director Kathryn Bigelow and screenwriter Mark Boal revealed they would make a film about Bergdahl, the American soldier who recently returned to the United States after five years as a prisoner of the Taliban in Afghanistan.
