HOLY SHIT. Same actor who was one of the knuckleheads in Nebraska, right? One of the kids who was making fun of Forte's character for how long the drive took them?

Saw Locke...decent movie carried by Tom Hardy.

Some reviewers have compared it to Gravity and/or All Is Lost, but a more direct comparison might be Buried with Ryan Reynolds.

Blue Ruin is a C+ at best.

The Great Escape with Steve McQueen is playing in a couple weeks at the cinema. Never seen, is it worth going to or is it cheesy as a few of his films have been? IMDb hypes it up, but it's hard to trust them on older movies sometimes as they get heavily skewed through the age (although Spiderman 2 gets 8.6 rating and it made want to probe my anus deeply for cobwebs).

just not in the mood for a lot of corniness. No Gomer Pyle or Mash or the Dustin Hoffman w/Steve McQueen movie Papillon smilefest and sayings like "we'll make it through these times together lifting each other up". Want more of a drama ala English Patient, but preferably with more sex scenes. None or very limited smiling though.

Have you seen this trailer for a fictional live action Akira? It is phenomenal.

It was ok. It's pretty much what you would expect... enjoyable, but not much to it.

I loved it, but it is definitely a Godzilla movie through and through. Same highs and lows as basically every other movie in the series.

I saw The Secret Life of Walter Mitty this weekend. I loved it. Personally, I think it was better than half the movies nominated for best picture this year.

    RIP Gordon Willis.
I just re-watched Manhattan and man that darkly lit new york skyline while woody allen and his young gf ride that horse carriage are so beautiful. Also those dark museum shots that suddenly transition to the mustang driving through new york is really great. I've never been to new york city but man can i really dream from those black and white shots.

Yeah, opinions are all over the place on this. I think people expected to LOL at Ben Stiller and they got more of a movie with heart. Reminded me a lot of Stranger Than Fiction, which a lot of Will Ferrell fans were like "What? Ewww!" about but I quite liked. I also quite enjoyed Walter Mitty.

There was absolutely nothing about those trailer that made it look like it was even a comedy. If anything it's looked overly ernest and sentimental and definitely drove me away form wanting to see it - and I am generally a big fan of the movies Stiller directs. he makes surprisingly very good-looking movies.

    Really, really, ridiculously good-looking?

We're here to play some Mississippi Delta Blues. We're in a horrible depression, and I gotta admit - we're starting to like it.

I agree with that. But there are a lot of people who go see a movie (or rent a DVD) and have never even seen the trailer for it. They see a name like Ben Stiller or Will Ferrell and think "hilarious!" Then they sit through Stanger Than Fiction or Mitty and get mad. And Mitty starts off funny-like, with his flights of fancy as a hero and whatnot... before it changes focus to largely something else. Yes, a movie with a heart. And a good soundtrack.

Godzilla only got good at the end. Turned to some poetic filmmaking after a previous 90% shitshow. It could have been a short Oscar contender if you cut the fat.

Agreed, Stranger Then Fiction is actually my favorite Ferrell movie because it so different then anything else he has done.

As far as Mitty goes it's by far one of the best cinematography movies I've seen. That was just mind blowing and worth seeing for that alone. However it reminded me a lot of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind in that all the technical aspects of the movie were amazing but the story line just really didn't do much for me.

Godzilla has been successful enough that Gareth Edwards has just been offered one of the Star Wars spin-off movies.

I've never been a huge Jude Law fan (loved him in Gattaca and Closer, but not much else, and both of those are a long time ago), but he's a fucking force of nature in Dom Hemingway. The film starts with him in prison at the tail-end of a 12-year sentence, soliloquizing about the power of his cock while receiving a blowjob from a fellow inmate and ends with a heart-rending confession over his ex-wife's grave. It's a story of half-hearted redemption and full-bore revenge, and now I guess I have to reevaluate Law's career to figure out what I've missed.

It seems he's officially on board and it's being written by the same jizzburps that wrote Book of Eli and After Earth. Might as well make a fucking LOBOT spin-off at this point.
