Andre...if you get a chance to get your hands on ANYTHING from Stone Brewing, drink it immediately! They make such amazing beers.
I'm a big fan of their India Pale Ale (IPA), Arrogant Bastard, and just about anything else they make. They also do a lot of limited runs of beers, so if you hit up a good liquor store you might find some special stuff that you'll never find again.
Other beers to try: Just about any variety of Karl Strauss, Eye of the Hawk (Mendocino Brewing), Red Tail (Mendocino Brewing), Dead Guy ale, (and I'll let ya know if I think of any more).
Look for PBR or Hamm's. If you are coming to the US you might as well try the beers we are famous for. Budweiser is a more expensive and worse tasting version of these. The nice thing about them is you can get a case (24 cans) of Hamm's for $10, at some Grocery stores. PBR or Pabst Blue Ribbon, is about 4.99 for a 12 pack. Trust me these are the way to go. Expecially served ice cold in 100 degree weather. Stronger beers aren't good when it's really hot out. At Coachella, last year, they served only Heineken for $6 a glass. Pretty good beer, pretty ridiculous price.
